Day 5

This morning is starting off in a strange place I'm not sure why but feel like a caged animal.  Glad I have a dog, she must sence something and pretty much sticks by me the last few days.  It's lousy weather so need to find something to do so I don't go nuts... I haven't left the house since I quit is  that normal?  As far as the holidays I think it will be a Happy Holiday wish to my family via phone.. Hope everyone has a nice Christmas eve or whatever you celebrate in this season....

Well, we're still waiting to hear about your dog!  I'm up to two border collies now- one I rescued 2  years ago, and a girl that I found at the bottom of our hill this past Thanksgiving- skin and bones.  She looks great right now, and she wants to PLAY.  She's young and starting to nip at my heals when I walk away (it's a herding thing).

Make up some games with that dog of yours- I'm going to take the older one for a run later this morning - it's 25 degrees, but you only live once.

I would recommend some kind of exercise to help take the edge off the anxiety though.  It helped get me through those first few days.

MERRY SOBRIETNESS...not sure that is a word but hey le't make it 1 on here!!!! You will get thru this!!!!!! Read some of the funny kooky posts and just laugh!!!! Your dog probrably stays by you cuz the risk of seizures that occur during withdrawal. Animals are very sensitive to our moods and things we do not always pick up on. I love my kittys and they are all so different just like people. Still wanting to adopt the one from my work place that I have fallen in kitty love with....gonna name her CHEWY!!! You take care and be well!!! Both my Tom and I are suffering from a cold flu at the moment and it's raining outside  here in Port St. Lousy. But it is a sober day above ground and that is what counts!!!!((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) TERRY

hi again. ya, detoxing is no fun. but it would be a good idea to somehow record exactly what you are feeling and going through now. if you can remember the present, it may help prevent it from becoming the future later on. for myself, i find that my own worst enemy is inside my head, as it tries to convince me i can successfully drink again. it makes me remember the sense of comfort and warm relaxation that used to result from my drinking and it makes me forget the hell i survived. this is what is meant by a condition in which "my head is out to get my a** as it has been described. if you would like some further insight into the nature of what is wrong, check out the "read the big book" link at aa.org or you can listen to a speaker at xa-speakers.org. the speakers have been especially helpful for me. keep holding on--it's worth it!  take care---gm

If you can't or won't get outside and nothing holds your interest than stay online or check for new posts every now and then.

The restlessnes at the beginning can be frustrating as h*ll. When I quit drinking I was forced into situations with people. I am not the type to do this on my own and sometimes I still isolate.  I should be taking care of last minute stuff and well..guess I am going to REALLY wait to the last minute.

1) Read the Archives. There are a many threads where members talk about how they got through what you are going through. (Boring, but hey.)

2) Better yet, not every thread has to be about alcohol.

I bet a lot of folks on the forum have a pet or two.  People will be on and off line during the holidays. Christmas experiences, pet stories or whatever are as good as any way to connect with one another.

3) Think of everything that has ever been wrong with you or you are curious about and post a question about it on that forum. That slow healing stubbed toe->Podiatry Forum.

4)  ¡Pets It Is!   I'll start:

What kind of dog do you have? Is that you in the boat in your image? Can you take your dog with you out on the boat?

Our Newfoundland died a few weeks ago (Dec. 3). His name was Zeuss. He was almost 10 and a skilled water rescue and retrieval dog. Man, that dog was one of the most well trained trained dogs we have ever had. He was kind of more of a man's dog due to being brought up with two wild teenage boys.

My life would be zero without my other dog. He's  Pyrenees Mountain dog. His name is Fermat. He's a neutered male and weighs about 115. Most Pyr's don't mind lousy weather since they are bred to be livestock guardians. His coat weighs adds 20 lbs when he gets soaked and wet Pyr fur is like wet felt. He's not a barker like most Pyrs and has a subtle, quirky personality.

I spend a lot of time with him.  I don't have his image loaded but the great thing about pure breeds is that they all look very much alike (or should in most aspects):

cut and paste this.

I saw that Bandida has a beautiful white fluffy cat on her page.  I love cats. We had 14 cats, a duck, two rabbits and a dog when I grew up. Hubby is allergic to cats :C

Hang in there and you'll eventually see that the support appears when you are ready.
