Today is day 1. I'm afraid.

I have decided at age 50 I no longer want to drink and want to start a sober life. I have found this site and intend to check in a lot to learn and hopefully find some support. I am very afraid of the side effects of stopping. I take two bp meds and prozac. I must monitor my bp and record it daily for my doctor. I am really going to try but as I allready suffer from a lot of anxiety I'm wondering what kind of time line I'm looking at before this is out of my system? The journey begins.

You have made a wonderful decision to stop drinking.  There is a life out here with your name on it!  I would really recommend that you talk with your doctor about this.  Be very honest with them as we want you to be safe due to the meds you are taking.  Your doctor will be able to monitor you better.  We have a great support system here on this forum so sit back and let us help~~sara

Drinking and taking meds dont go good together that will cause extra anxiety and bad feelings so a time line alcohol dont stay in your system very long if you quit drinking. As for your bp and anxiety they will get better if you stop drinking I no from experience they will get better.  There's good recovery on the forum so hang in there.  Let go let God.

Day one is the best day because you know that you have started on a path to a better life.  Since you are on meds, you should tell your doctor and let her help you out.  Taking vitamins and supplements are really helping me along.  There is a wonderful book that I found called Seven Weeks to Sobriety by Joan Larson.  The book tries to pinpoint the forces that make you want to drink, and based on how you answer the questions, recommends a nutritional plan.  I found everything at the local health food store, and most of it were things I had never heard of.  But I have been taking them exactly as she outlines and I haven't had any cravings.  I do have Xanax from my doc for the really bad anxiety attacks but they are starting to go away.  Thank God!
