Congradulations Vanbek! Your on the path to recovery isn't it great! Keep settings small goals to make maintaining your sobriety worthwhile. Find support from your friends and loved ones, nothing is harder than letting down people you care about and respect.

JJ's advice is an exellent idea. AA for support also. Many options to try but if your sure you got this on your own then more power to you! Again congrads!

Outpatient treatment is a thing to consider if you really desire the need to stop drinking. A long time ago I battled with alcohol but I stopped on my own taking a night shift job, and eventually quit. Treatment with counselors is a great idea for you. You can learn to be more sociable and full of life without the alcohol...

After reading your reply I realize this drinking does need to stop for you. It is time to get your life together and make things happen, living your life this way isn't really living at all my friend. It is merely getting by. I'm glad you have concerns and want to do something about it. AA is a great place to start and find the help you need.

The very first thing I noticed when I quit drinking was my self-confidence shot way up. It is a wonderful tool to have and help you reach your goals no matter how big or small. You can turn that world your trying to escape into a reality with-in reason.

I thought maybe I could advice you on what method to choose to stop drinking but ciders aren't real common here and I have no experience to speak from. Also this is your decision, it's your life. Choose the method you feel safest with. It's not easy by any means but it is possible and you can do it!

I don't know how things work in your country but here in the states if you need a root canal then they will put you to sleep and get it done. I dont think your tolerance for alcohol has anything to do with the drug they use durring the procedure. The agency that governs drugs and alcohol in your country will surely have different regulations and the technics used for a root canal may be entirely different. I wish the best for, take care.

Hey Randy ...thanks for listening....I drink mainly ciders but I can go 7 quarts from afternoon to evening, I also drink old brown sherry and these days a 750 ml bottle will get me mellowed out only.I went for a root canal procedure yesterday, but the anesthetic was not potent enough so they aborted the procedure and put me on antibiotics for the time being....some guys I talked to suggest its my tolerance for alcohol that is working against the procedure.... could that be true?...Alcohol has me trapped coz it just makes me escape and makes me think jolly thoughts ,romantic even..with out me being able to realize these in real life...sad but true....

Seems like this is the very thing that gets most of us in this situation. In the beginning we all have the same concerns you have but grow accustom to that lifestyle. You know it really only takes one person to feel the same way you are then find other stuff to do.

You know you can still hit up the clubs and order a coke or 7up and no one has to know the difference if your drinking or not. If you are having concerns about withdrawal we can talk about that too but first I need to know how often, how much and what you are drinking? It's not always safe for someone to quit drinking abruptly. In some cases tapering down to reach your goal will work just fine but for others rehabilitation is needed as side effects can be so severe that in rare cases death can occur.
