Question About Binge Drinking

I recently spent about 24 hours blackout drunk. I woke up this morning and have red spots/rashes on my arms and penis. On my penis and on one arm, the rash does not itch or hurt, but it does itch on the other arm and spans almost my whole forearm. So the question is, can this be a result of binge drinking? I did the drinking by myself in my apartment, so there's little change I was exposed to poison ivy/oak or that I had a sexual exposure. Any feedback is much appreciated...

Hi,
If you are on medication and mixing them with drink then you must think about the danger you are putting yourself in. Your rash may be due to your mixing drink and antidepressants. Contact your family doctor about this

Step 1. We admitted we were powerless over our alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable
You need to think about this step, you say you have “successfully cut down significantly” yet you are significantly concerned enough to come here and post starting with “I recently spent about 24 hours blackout drunk”. you must know that to drink yourself into this state is not normal or rational behaviour. As you say AA is the most logical next step. .

Well, I have successfully cut down significantly (used to get drunk by myself everyday, and now I usually limit it to binges on the weekends). That said, I know in the back of my mind that I will never be able to control my alcohol consumption in the long term and that I need to stop altogether. I actually am already in therapy and on antidepressant meds, but AA is probably the most logical next step.

If you are getting these kind of blackouts you need to stop thinking in the cut down frame of mind and get some help. Where better to start than AA, you may want to see your family doctor as well as you may suffer withdrawals and these need to be supervised by a doctor. The longer you stay drinking the harder this is going to get as you most likely no.

Thanks for the insight. I will see what I can pickup at the pharmacy. Obviously, I know I need to cut back on the drinking a lot, if not altogether. I have been to AA before and am considering going back.

it can be an allergic reaction to alcohol and/or it can be that your liver is having problems, hence not being able to break down the poison/ alcohol properly, which can result in rashes. you may have scratched in your pass-out state. Hope u get better! buy over the counter cortisone and some aloe and rub it on. also, if it keeps on itching, get an anti-itch cream in the pharmacy. you can also take Benadryl or Zyrtec which help with the itching. And try to chill with the drinking, of course...
