The effects of alcohol

I have been suffering from severe anxiety lately and started taking medication for it.  I recently quit drinking and this is the 9th day.  I am so consumed with fear that I caused severe damage to my liver and can't stop thinking about it.  I have dry mouth all the time and can't taste food like I used to.  I went to the doctor this past Monday and told him about my drinking.  I am scheduled to go back in a month for a complete physical.  I am wondering if my symptoms are the effects of heavy drinking and anxiefty.  How long does it take for the effects of alcohol to go away and me start feeling good again.  I don't even want to drink.  I hope I haven't severely damaged by liver.  Can someone provide some insight?  How long does it take for your body to recover?

It is not just the physical health that is damaged by drinking, emotional and mental symptoms such as fear, paranoia and depression are often a problem. talk with your doctor about this and find a recovery program like AA.

The time your body takes to recover from alcohol abuse varies with the individual. It also depends on the length of time that you abused alcohol and the quantity of alcohol that you were consuming daily.

It sounds like your symptoms are WD symptoms from quitting consumption of alcohol. The best thing is to find some OTC remedies for your symptoms and tough it out. Check the health pages on this site and other posts for specific OTC help for your WD symptoms.

In any event it will be short lived and you will enjoy the benefits of your great decision to quit drinking the rest of your life. Tomorrow's gain will be well worth today's pain.
