Wanting to quick drinking for good, looking for advise

I have come to the relization that I really need to stop drinking Alcohol completely.  I am 3 months from being 29 and have been drinking relatively heavy on and off since I turned 21.  I have a dad now and I am feeling I really need to stop to avoid dying at a young age and leaving my kids.  I am scared to go to the doctor for fear of what they will tell me and I don't know how much damage I have done to myself.  I am a binge drinker and will go on for days without stopping, the amounts vary sometimes it's a 12 pack sometimes a 30 pack mostly never hard alcohol.  The withdrawals have gotten worse in recent years and at one point I was hallucinating and hearing voices.  Now I mostly get the shakes and get insomia when I'm done with a binge.  I really have a true desire to stop, I want to be here for my kids and my wife and I am also come to the relization that I cannot control it and also cannot stop at just a few.  I need to find a way to stop completely.  Any advise or information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Hope you come back and open the diaglogue. It's not going to help to hide the problem from the light. You came so far to come and open up here, a shame if you stop now.

When i finally managed to quit, it was in a day program run in our local hospital. I was able to go home at night. Doing a day rehab you are able to use what you are learning and put it into practice. I learned that i needed to walk at least one block away from restaurants and bars that were licensed lol. You do whatever it takes if you are serious about quitting.
You are right to deal with this now that you are a father, and husband. Imagine if your legacy to your family was that you were too stubborn or lazy to get help?
It is not luck that will get you sober, so i won't wish you luck.
YOU CAN DO THIS. STICK WITH THE WINNERS. (the collective wisdom of others who have quit with the help of AA ; detox, rehab, etc)

Let any of us here on medhelp know if you need to talk via private message, you'll not be turned away here or in AA.

Great words above.  If you aren't sure where to start, you can always start with your medical Dr.  You are in need of a medical detox at the levels you are drinking.  You have already experienced some nasty WD's in the past, and stopping on such a high amount of alcohol can also lead to seizures (a friend of mine was driving when this happened).  Start your research and plan today.
While you are waiting to hear back from rehabs, Dr., etc., Google AA meetings in your area.  They are often frequent, nearby, and they are free.  You only need to have the desire to quit to attend a meeting.  Folks at AA meetings have been in your shoes, will not judge you, and are a wonderful support system that you will need both now and after a program.  You don't have to even say anything, just listen.
Congrats to you on recognizing that you want better for yourself and your family.  You have so much life ahead of you, start now so that you can enjoy it!
Keep us posted!
Wish you the very best!

I'm not an expert on alcohol addiction but I've seen what it did to friends and family.  Its a fearsome drug!  Stopping alcohol abuse requires a medical detox.  This is covered by most insurance policies and lasts for 3 to 7 days.
Get into a treatment plan.  Do some research and get into the best one you can find/afford.  If you don't think you can maintain sobriety in an out-patient program, get into a residential program.  Decide what kind of future you want with your kids and use that as motivation to be successful.  A wonderful life doesn't just happen, we work to make wonderful lives for ourselves.  The very best of luck and my best wishes to you sucess.

You need to go to your county of residence outpatient alcohol/drug abuse clinic. They can help you find a good detox program plus do some follow-up treatment. If you keep this up your wife and your children will be the recipients of additional damage, more than what they've already witnessed. You are young!Stop this now before it stops you!
