Zinc 220mg.

Hello everyone! I think alot of the people here are familar with my story. I Am 39 and was diagnosed with cirrhosis nearly a year ago.
Lately I have been having some problems with high amonia level. On 02/05/11 my blood labs were taken and my Ammonia level was 68. I seem to be one of the people who are easily affected by Heptic Encephalopathy. My doctor prescribed Zinc Sulfate 220mg. I took the pill today for the first time and suffered the worse pain i had ever experiencd in my life and I'm pretty good at banging myself up! ha ha Any how the pain was in my lower back (kidney area) and my entire adominal area. Tomorrow I go for a endoscopy. Maybe that will offer and explanation. Does anyone have an idea why this pill could've had this effect on my?

Hi Sarah and thank you for the advice. I have taken it since but always very cautiously. I usually still get pain in my lower abdonman but it's nothing like it did to me before. I will look up the gluzin and talk to my doctor about it. Thank you again!  Is 220mg alot?

I suffer from WD - the ULTIMATE user of Zinc.  Wilson Disease is zinc deficiency and thus a build-up of copper in our system - this is the "short" version.

Zinc in general is very irritating and can cause nausea and vomiting - ESPECIALLY on an empty stomach.  There is a pharmaceutical zinc acetate Galzin that I was on, but it gave me too much GI upset.  I have also heard that zinc sulfate may also be not too preferred.

I am presently on zinc gluconate Gluzin - www.gluzin.com - 50 mg 3x a day.  Gluzin is WDA's Zinc OTC of choice.  You might want to take a look into taking Gluzin?  Hope this helps.

I am kinda shocked to hear that you are taking 220 mg a day?
