cirrhosis

My husband has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver.  The Dr has not staged it.  He is anemic and they are running tests to determine the cause. The upper endoscopy was normal and he is now scheduled for a colonscopy. He also has hemochromatosis but has not done a phlebotomy in over a year. His ammonia levels are twice as high as the norm.  He has had a recent weight loss and is not able to or does not want to stop drinking alcohol.  Once a person has advanced cirrhosis and does not stop drinking how long might they live?  I am very concerned.

Each drink your husband drinks could well be his last however there is always hope. It has to begin with him, he needs to be open to getting help. The help is there for him should he choses to take it.
This is a trying time for you, you need to look after your physical & emotional health as well.

how long have u been married to him?the damage u describe is the result of years of heavy drinking.if he keeps drinking he will shorten his life on a daily basis even more......and it sounds like he is on borrowed time now.....no one can give u a guaranteed time frame on how much time he has left...if he would stop its all one day at a time regarding these serious medical issues.
