It is not a mole, it is a rash that covers most of his back.  He has been to the VA dermatologist and they give him cream like its an alergy but it doesnt help.  He has had this over a year and he also has a few red spots the size of a dime on his legs.  I believe its from the liver damage.  I read that the bile problems cause the itching.

It sounds like what you are descibing is nothing more than a red mole. In most cases they are harmless and are more commonly found on aging skin. You might try simply putting lotion on the area instead of showering. Perhaps the itching is brout on from just having dry skin. I'm sure he has nothing else to worry about. I dont know your husbands history with alcohol but its always good to get him in for a routine check up atleast once a year and besure your Doctor performs a routine blood test. This will allow him to know the condition of his liver. While he's there might just as well show the doctor the red spot. Best wishes
