Hi honey, I read your other posts and found that you and your 2 year old both have HepC. You need to quit now, and adopt healthy lifestyle for both your son, and yourself.  You can find out how to do that by reaching out with the truth of your situation to those souls on the HepC site that are dedicated to helping out in any way they can.

I know you feel guilty for having given your son HepC during childbirth. You need to be able to tell him, when he gets older, all of the things that you did, ie. exact nutrition for HepC patients in order to save his and his mothers life. If you can't do this for you, do it for him. If you don't do this, your son is probably going to have a really hard time forgiving you for giving him HepC, don't you think? If you don't act like a responsible parent after the fact, there will be no consoling your child. This is not just about you, this is about you doing more than feeling guilty for passing on this disease, it's about you doing every single thing you can to save your son's life, as well as your own. Not for yourself, but for him. You owe him that honey. Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.

Congrats on 4 Days clean. Just....don't take that first drink. Keep it Simple. Can't wait to watch your progress. You can be one of the lucky ones. Power to you and let me know if you need to talk. I've been clean for years now, One Day At A Time. Liz

I quit drinking when I got my Hep C diagnosis for the same reasons as you, no doubt. For me it was relatively easy, because I had many experiences with people dying of cirrhosis of the liver.
When I got Diabetes Type 2, I got a glucose monitor, and quickly reversed my disease. When I had my Hep C diagnosis I quickly got a liver biopsy and found out what stage I  was (of cirrhosis). You see, just because you've got Hep C. you're automatically at a stage of Cirrhosis of the liver. I was at the first stage , I had fibrosis, and scarring. That put the fear of God into me. I've got a beautiful son. He needed me to stop my liver disease, (Hep C) from progressing into Cirrhosis. While all my less caring friends were dying , both my husband and myself quit drinking and doing drugs. Hep C. is not a death sentence, unless you progress from fibrosis. and then it certainly can be. Please save your life, Use the Good Sense God Gave You. and quit the substance abuse and stop the progression of your disease. 15 years later, both my husband and I got a Fibroscan.(easy peasy ultrasound, note: in the old days you had to have a Liver Biopsy which is a big needle extracting a piece of liver) and found that we had progressed very minimally. I actually started on Medhelp to find out about how to look after our Hep C (on the Hep C site) There are some really good people that can answer all your questions. I got advice and followed it. That's what you need to do now, before it's too late.
Listen, if I can help you in any way , to get to where you need to be, I'd love to. That's why I stayed on at Medhelp mainly, to help other addicts.

Hi there Im new here too! I am an alcoholic wanting to quit. Im married, have 3 young kids and suffer from depression and eating disorder. Im also married to a hardcore alcoholic who comes from a disfunctional family. My mother in law is actually the person who hooked me up with the habit of drinking every day... that is what she does and at that time I lived in her house. Everytime she poured herself a glass, she poured me one too and said  come on, drink with me.... Here I am 8 years down the road, addicted wanting to quit. This is actually my day number 4 of no alcohol (SUCCESS!!!). I never before lasted more than 2. What helps me with my withdrawal are benzodiazepines (klonopin 1mg and Lorazepam 2mg) that my psychiatrist prescribed to me for my irritability and anxiety. I never mixed those with alcohol and also Im not addicted to them, I actually started taking them when I quit drinking. Before I used it only like once in few months when I had a panic attack. I read online they help with alcohol withdrawal and they really do! Before I wasnt able to last without drinking more than a day or two, now Im on day 4 and carrying on....

Hi there, you have a lot on your plate right now.  Please try not to beat yourself up.  When you know better you do better.
Try to learn as much as you can about support for the alcohol as well as info for the HCV.  As South635 said there are new treatments about to be approved next year that do not make a person  ill as the older treatments.  Maybe you could try to regroup, get your ducks in a row for treatment for next year.  In the meantime you can find out what geno type you are and also what damage your liver might have.

My best to you
Dee

Hey Luvbug so sorry to hear about your problems. There are some new promising treatments out for Hep C. But yeah, you have to quit alcohol, so don't beat yourself up about the past. There are so many people now with Hep C that they are recommending that everyone get tested for it. This is a good place to start for great support while you are trying to quit alcohol. I just tried to keep myself really mentally busy and made some tea so I was always putting a drink in my mouth just like before when it was alcohol. I quit last Friday, and I am new to the forum. Best of luck to you.

PS "I have been in out of these rooms for 35 years." Sounds crazy when you consider until this last 15 months I have never had any true length of sobriety. I have come to understand what it means to listen to suggestions.

Like open mind as stated," congrats on wanting your life back. You can do this!"
Here I am licking my wounds, I relapsed last week. Gave back 460+ days. Today I have 7!!!
Not long ago I posted about how fragile my sobriety, I knew I was in trouble and yet did nothing to stop what was coming. I needed to talk with someone and did not. Thought I could handle it, on my own. I have been practicing my craft for 45 years and some how forgot the truth, alcohol is cunning baffling etc.  All I can offer is encouragement in finding a way to express whats up with you. I am starting my 37th week of hep c tx and it has not been anything that I had expected. It has kicked my a$$.

Sorry to hear about how your life has been going lately.

I found that alcohol doesn't make anything better for me. If I have a problem, then I drink, suddenly I got two problems. I also found I couldn't quit alcohol until I asked for help. Congratulations on taking this big step and asking for help! We can help you stop, answer any questions you might have, and offer you lots of continuing support.

I belong to the NA fellowship and I also attend AA. I've had excellent results of stopping both drugs - dope and alcohol - by going to those meetings and following the program they lay out for Me. It only works if i work it. It doesn't help for me to sit home and listen to my own thinking because my own thinking got me into this mess. So I go and listen to other people's thinking. The others are there doing the same thing. It really works! Amazing stuff. But YOU must make the move to quit. It's up to you to go, then you relax your grip on your steering wheel, open your mind, and you have an excellent chance of not using anything anymore and actually being happy with your life and your surroundings. Drugs and Alcohol is only a symptom. We alcoholics have a disease that consumes our thinking and our whole being. And it needs to be treated every day.

Again, congrats on wanting your life back. You can do this!
