Question

hi thank you to the members who gave thier advice to a previous question, the conclusion was i did not self medicate, and went back to my doc with xanax still 3 times a day, but can take more, .25 a go that is, zeprexa 10mg, prozac 60mg and inderal 80mg, I also drink but this is i think (hope) under control ,as the whole reason i drank was to stop an oncoming attack in social settings the calming effect which for me is an elusive but addicting feeling , my question is will i always have to take all these meds, has anyone overcome a panic disorder without being drugged, which is how i feel most of the day, wandering in and out of reality - if that makes sense??

I agree with both jerz and fuzzy.  Don't combine alchohol with a benz (xanax, ativan, klonopin, etc).  As far as being on medication your whole life, I look at it this way.  I was on Zoloft and Klonopin three years ago to help me battle panic and anxiety.  At first I was EXTREMELY against in sort of medication, but I realized that it was a tool for me to help understand why I was thinking the way I was.  I did not get over it from meds alone, I needed to learn about my condition with a therapist.  I was off of medications for over 2 years until recently.  I also felt a little 'out of it' for awhile the first time I was on Zoloft.  But as time went on, my body became adjusted to it, and according to my wife and friends they could not even tell I was on anything.  Meds won't do it alone, but they helped/and are helping in my case as I talk this through every week with a professional.

Totally,Totally agree with jerzeegal.  Xanax can be a dangerous drug when mixed with alcohol.  I do know of people that have made it through without drugs But, they were in intense therapy.  I think it's all up to you as far as being on these medication's and for how long. The medication's are there to help you get over the hump while you try to work on the problem. Im sorry to say the alcohol in combo. with the medication will do nothing more than hinder the outcome.

Personally speaking I haven't overcome a panic disorder but I do feel my anxiety is getting under better control for lack of a better way to put it. Trust me there is light at the end of the tunnel. If you aren't seeing a therapist along with taking the meds than please consider it.

Also  please please don't drink and take xanax, it's a very dangerous combination.
