I really couldn't say what is causing your dizziness; however, I would be inclined to trust your doctor's opinion. And given the anxiety you are having about the situation, dizziness caused by anxiety could be a likely explanation. It is important to have whatever tests your doctor recommends. The ear tests may be uncomfortable, but maybe you and you therapist can discuss this and try to find ways to make the experience less distressful for you. Dizziness caused by ear problems can be effectively treated - probably a lot faster than dizziness caused by anxiety, so it is important to rule this out. Either way, your dizziness will go away with appropriate treatment.
All the best..
do u think it could be caused by like an inner ear thing.....im worried it will turn into vertigo or get worse.....i did go to an ENT...and he said it didnt think soo but that was after i kinda told him i have anxiety...which im worried he just said o ok then its that....im scared to get the tests though b/c they make u feel dizzy to find out the problem....so do u think it could be something other than anxiety from what i told u???
I still get the lightheadedness every once in a while.. like when I am really stressed out. But it is definitely not all the time. It has been months since the last time I felt lightheaded. You will not feel like this forever. Lightheadedness / dizziness is such a vague symptom that it can be caused by just about anything - including a twisted a neck. It is important that a dr. rule out physical causes first. If your symptom turns out to be caused by anxiety, it will get better as the therapy begins to work - which can take some time.
yea my therapist is trying to give me some ways to calm myself down. so u still feel like dizzy and off balacne even though u seem to have gotten over ur anxiety. im worried i will never get over it. do u think dizziness likei described could be from a twisted neck or something? my mom thinks so b/c she gets the same way sometimes.
I definitely know what you mean about being scared about the dizziness. A few years ago, I had what you are experiencing for almost a full week, and I was convinced I had a brain tumor. Anxiety has caused so many health scares for me... but they all turned out to be nothing. A big part of anxiety/panic is being afraid of having anxiety/panic. It's a bad cycle. The best you can do is try not to fight it. When you feel it coming on, tell yourself that you are having anxiety and it will pass. Take deep breaths and give yourself as much time as you need to relax. Anxiety/panic will not kill you, and people rarely faint from these attacks (because the blood pressure tends to skyrocket). After "surviving" these attacks for many years now, I've learned to cope with them better. They still suck when I get them, but I am usually able to recognize them for what they are.
thanks...yea i am seeing a theripist so i think its helping a little im just still worried.....and once in a while when i will bend my head over it like starts to spin but then when i come back up its fine...it sfreaks me out a lot....i think that would be a neck prob. and then when i wake up a few mornings it was spinning...which realllly scared me...but that has happened like 2 times in my life...i hate it thought im soo sared it will happen again. i think all those r neck probs. b/c i remeber sleeping all crunched.....ugh im soo worrrried.
Dizziness / lightheadedness is a common symptom of anxiety and depression. I get it all the time. With any physical symptom, it is best to be examined by your doctor - which you have. Based on your seemingly severe health anxiety and history, I would trust your doctor that there is probably nothing physical causing the dizziness. Have you spoken to your dr. about your anxiety? There are many medications that can help get the anxiety under control. Your dizziness is likely to subside once you start treating the anxiety.
All the best..
thanks for responding....most people just pass by my questions for some reason. im glad u have the same symptoms-not glad that u have it- just glad that im not alone. i am soooo worried i have vertgio or will get it and i did have my thryoid checked n it was normal. i thikn it is anxiety mostly but id no what to do..i feel soo depressed and like there is no point to my life...this has taken over my life. im worried i have BPPV b.c years ago when i had kinda the same symptoms i felt like once or twice when i was sleeping i felt like my eyes shook and i was kinda dizzy and now reading about everything shaking eyes was like a symptom of BPPV...so now I AM SOO SCARED I HAVE THAT. i have had it since but im scared i will get it...uhhh this is soo exhausting.
All I can say is WOW!! I came on here to post pretty much the same question. I DO have ear problems but my ear doc of 5 years says my ears are stable. I was tested for vertigo and meneire's and both were negative. He basically told me that since I have had episodes of being lightheaeded and feeling off balance I have basically trained my brain to always feel that way. He is sending me for vestibular rehab to retrain my brain. I too have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and this can be the cause of it too. Have you ever had your thyroid checked? This daily lightheadedness anf disequilibrium sensations has caused major anxiety!
