Imipramine stopped me from getting new phobias for a few years, but stopped working when I hit my first emotional crisis (a relationship breakup). Kind of odd, since I wasn't using it for depression. It didn't get rid of my old phobias, but did stop me from forming new ones until it stopped working.
I take Klonopin for anxiety and panic attacks, and am beginning imiprimine at 75 mgs. tonight. I'll let you know how it goes!
I took imipramine for depression after my mum died and it worked very well. It did not help my panic disorder at all. But bear in mind that we are all different, we all react to meds differently, what works for you may not work for me...................
You say that now you just have GAD, some panic and scary thoughts, but no depression.
I am not a doctor nor a pharmacist, I DO know there are antidepressants out there that also have an affinity for anxiety/panic disorders. But I just don't believe in being treated for something we don't have. You are not depressed. Why should you be treated for it?
Perhaps because you had depression before, your doctor is covering the bases and it's well known that anxiety and depression often go hand in hand, but I would definitely discuss, as you said, other options.
Wishing you the best
Peace
