Anxiety and birth control

I'm 19 years old and I've been dating a depressed man for over a year. His depression only became apperent about 6 months into our relationship when he attemped suicide multiple times. When he began attempting suicide, I also began taking birth control. Since then I've noticed a major change in my moods. I find myself crying for no apperent reason for hours. I worry constantly about things which have no meaning. I'm wondering how I might determine what the cause of these changes could be.

Either my boyfriend's depression is causing me to become anxious or my birth control. Any thoughts?

Go back to your OB-GYN about your pills, there are others you can try.

Thanks so much for the advice! I've seeked counseling through our school both the doctors I spoke to were interns. Neither were able to offer any helpful advice on how to deal with my boyfriends issues.

As for my birthconrol, I recently switched brands because my previous rx was inducing my period a week before I took my placebo pill.

After this switch I've noticed an even more sever change in my mood. I've been on this new brand, crysell for 3 weeks now and feel strange after taking it. I dont want to be off the pill, but I'm not liking how I feel on them. Any advice on how to counter-act some of the negative hormones I'm getting from the pill?

Hey hun

Birth control can as a side affect cause depression due to the hormonal changes it causes your body, perhaps see how you go for a little longer, then have a chat about changing it, if it is still bothering you, perhaps add some vitamins like vitamin b complex that is supposed to help..

As for your boyfriend, wow your so young to be dealing with this, is he seeing anybody about this? Is he on medication? The best thing you can do is go with him, so you can also have some counceling..

Wish you well.. x x

You've been dealing with an awful lot with your boyfriend and his problems, so that could possibly be a good part of it.  You do have some symptoms of depression and it's best you speak with a psychiatrist about all this.  He can teach you coping skills to help you deal with your boyfriend, and access you and your needs as well.  I think to be only 19 and dealing with a suicidal boyfriend is very hard on you.  Seek the advice of a professional to help you sort thru this.  Take care...
