help

I have suffered anxiety and panic most of my life. i am currently taking effexor, buspar and serequil. They help but i still have pretty bad anxiety especially at work and in group situations. I am constantly asking everyone if everything is ok and paranoid that i am doing something wrong and waiting for the other shoe to drop. i was having a pretty bad anxiety attack that had lasted a few days. My husband told his psychiatrist about it and she told him to give me one of his neurontin which he was prescribed for pain. He gave me two neurontin and i was able to function again. It calmed me enough that i could concentrate. The neurontin did not work for him and he had several refills. I did some research and found out that this medicine was used for anxiety. I mentioned this to my dr. but did not tell him that i had taken it because i was scared to. He dismissed it. I coninued to take it but the problem is I had to take it in higher doses an order to calm the anxiety. According to what i read this is normal. I ran out before it was time to get a refill and had horrible withdrawall The panic was awful. I was nauteous and could not sleep depression and irrational fears ran rampant,  I then found out you should not come off of this drug cold turkeyI was able to get a refill a few days later but am terrified of going through withdrawall again, Should I tell my dr what I have been doing and fess up to taking my husbands medicine or can you suggest a taper. I know im not a dr and what i did was wrong but i really belieive this medicine could be right for me. Help I can not go through that withdrawall again.

I understand your fear with the medications but you have to try to take a lower dose that will last all month. If I were you, I would go see your husbands psychiatrist, the one that told you to take it in the first place. They really should see you before they tell you to take anything. But they maybe able to give you your own script. Not only that but she can tell you the max to take and how to stop taking it.

Remember though, all that is, is a bandaid. You need to treat the actually anxiety itself. I take zoloft which helps keep me level but do have xanax for break through panic.

Can you go see her as well?

Hi ineed,
I understand how you feel. I suffer myself from panic and anxiety. It is a bad bad feeling. I was told some kind of cjemicals dump in your blood stream which causes panic attack. This was a council that told me. A other doctor told me it was all behavoir, mental. This in turn causes all the physical symptoms. shotness of breath, shaking, pending doom in life, if your gonna die stuff like that. I go through all that too but now I cry too. You should always let your doctor know what you take. The reason I say is because you never know what kind of side affect you would get that they would need to know. You could hurt yourself. Some meds you even have to have current blood tests every six months to monitor your levels. so yes tell your doctor. just say hey doc. I know I should not have done this but I was left with no choice I was at work. So I took these meds and they helped. Do you think it would be ok to take it with you monitoring on it? He will like the fact you were honest and you gave him the ball. Some have God complexes. I take Lorazapam muself on a as needed basis. I chose tjis cause I did not want something in my body constantly. If I had a chemical imbalance then maybe accumalitivewould be the way to go but panic is behavoir learned well thats what they say. anyhow. I hope it all works out for you. oh I get the nighttime anxiety thing too. Hate it Good luck
