Yes ativan is a fast acting benzodiazepine good for panic attacks and may also help you sleep. How did the doc prescribe it? Take on an as needed basis?
Go see a good psychiatrist if you don't already see one and set up a plan to deal with your anxiety disorder.
The specific juice would be grapefruit. It inhibits Cytochrome P-450, which is a liver enzyme that metabolizes certain drugs. Ativan is metabolized via Glucuronidation and is conjugated (metabolized via kidneys). So no interaction there. Ativan is the cleanest Benzodiazepine, which is why the ER favors it. Additionally, it is short-acting and has no active metabolites like Valium.
Be advised the Ativan isn't approved for long-term use. It is indicated for as-needed use only on an infrequent basis - a "rescue" med for sporadic attacks. If your symptoms persist, consider consultation with a psychiatrist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Thank you so much for the information. It really helped me last night. However, I plan to use it only if I really have to. Thanks again!!!
