Most people do gain weight on SSRI's, I had never been overweight beforeand am quite a healthy eater, one year and two SSRI's later 40 lbs, no energy and I was so disconnected.(This was only the last 6 mths)It did help with the anxiety though. I have been off for two weeks lost 4 lbs and have lot's of energy. I have started to take wellbutrun, my dr says the huge majority of people lose weight on this drug.( we will seeif it helps with anxiety) Just look into your options everybody has different expereinces. If you have self image issues, do your homework it is not superficial to want to avoid something that won't make you feel good. With all these meds it can take alot of trial and error with them .
Dani,
Don't do it! I am just getting off of the lexapro (Today is my first day without it) and in the past 2 years, not only have I experiences a lack of feeling, (I have felt nothing emotionally) but i have gained 45 lbs! NO change of diet, NO change of excersize, try something natural if you can or do more research. I have been thin all of my life, now I am considered overweight? Time to start dieting!
Good luck!
Jenny
Everybody responds differently to the same SSRI - some will gain weight, others will lose weight, and others wont experience a change in weight. Despite statistics, what it all boils down to is how YOU respond to the medication which can only be determined from trying it.
