Well, I guess the answer is, 'it depends.' While some types work great some, others don't like it, but I can give you my opinion on what worked for me.
Many people here in this forum are/or have been on a group of medications known as SSRIs (i.e. Zoloft, Prozac, Celexa, etc) which are prescribed more long term. They can take about a month for one to actually feel the effects of the medication, but for me they have worked really well.
There are also more immediate acting meds that most people here refer to as benzos (benzodiazepines) that are usually used on a short term, as needed basis (i.e, Xanax, Ativan, etc).
Some people choose not to used medication, which is also an approach. I really don't think there is a wrong or right answer with meds. In my opinion, one must weigh the benefits vs. costs when deciding to use them.
I believe that the most important step I took in dealing with my anxiety was through counseling. I am a supporter of medication when combined with talk therapy...together they can be a very powerful combination. Welcome to the forum!
Hi and welcome! It's impossible to say what medication is best for anxiety because each of us responds differently to the medications. What has helped me...may not help you and vice versa. It can often be trial and error as to what works best for us, and trying them is the only way to find out. It may be the very first one your doctor prescribes, or it may be the second, we just don't know. A lot depends on if you need something 24/7, or just something to take on an "as needed" basis. You and your doctor will discuss your needs and what he feels will work best for you. Hope this helps and take care.
I'm pretty sure it varies on the patient, but welcome!
I don't take medications. :(
