CeLeXa

So it has been almost a month now that I have been on Celexa 10 mg, I have been feeling a little bit better but I was wondering when does the SSRi finally kick in for people? I heard it takes 4-6 weeks or 6-8 weeks... not sure?... Does anyone take it for anxiety with related to thyroid issues? All I have heard from my fellow co workers who work in mental health is that celexa maybe isnt the drug for me and my anxiety and panic issues?... anyone have advice to how long I should give celexa before I try something else?...

Thanks for the comments it has been 3 days since I wrote that.. funny thing is that I had kinda a ****** day that day almost full of anxiety of having a panic attack. I am now feeling a little bit better but I have some words of advice as I think about anxiety and panic... it shouldnt hold us back from doing anything... some people stay in bed and lay around because it has a dehabilitaing effect, GET OUT  and ENJOY life try to do as much as you can... someone with anxiety and panic get very exhausted as you all know, but please do as much as you can a day... LIVE LIFE.... with your own therapy of understanding anxiety and panic and just pushing it aside and keeping busy is very theraputic which I have understood with my self... thanks guys for your advice and just being someone to talk to... some times thats all a person needs is a ear to talk into... or i guess on here its a screen to look at...

god bless

Welcome back and with such good news! I'm so glad you are feeling some relief!
As many folks have said, what works for one may not work for another, so continue to work with your doctors and if a small dosage increase is indicated, then so be it. And what Silverberg said I couldn't agree with more! Take everyones answers with a grain of salt, especially those who simply cut and paste info off the nearest website!
Hope to see you posting again!
Peace

just stick where your at right now on celexa, 4-6 weeks to feel effects, I can't believe someone would tell you "what drug may or may not be for you", stick with this one give it a chance to reach "theraputic levels" if your doing fine on it now, then the old saying if it's not broke don't try to fix it, allot of ssri's have adjustments you have to make to them, so give this med a chance, I took zoloft with my first and far WORSE bout with PA, and it saved and gave me back my life, Panic free from a number of years, this round with PA was much milder and I tried zoloft and was not right for me, so I went to celexa have been on it for 3 weeks and feel better already, could it be a placibo affect, WHO CARES LOL, it works for me!! I have been PA free almost a year, with only mild Anxiety, but I also did CBT for 6 months.

My point is take everyones answers with a grain of salt, as what works for others may not work for you, but at lease give it a try! wish you the best.

Perhaps your dose should be adjusted.  Ten mgs is a relatively low dose.  I take Celexa and found while feeling a little better I was still struggling.  Doc upped the dose and within a couple of weeks I was feeling great.

I wholeheartedly agree.  Many times it can be a little trial and error with medications, but if it is working for you and you can tolerate it, continue working with your doctor with this.  Let us know how it goes!

Hi

Since you are feeling a little better after just about a month that is a good thing. What works for you might not work for other & vice versa. Your dose is also a low dose. Once you adjust to the medicine your Dr might increase it for maximum benefits. If you are not uncomfortable with the effects of the Celexa I think you should give it some time.
Good luck to you!

Different meds affect people in different ways.  What is good for one person may not work as well for another.  You said that you are feeling better, which is great in my opinion.  Overcoming anxiety can be a long arduous process, so remember to focus on your progress even if it is small; it is no easy feat.  For me, it took the SSRI I was taking about 6 weeks or so to start feeling the full benefit.  Combining this with talk therapy also worked wonders for me.  Confronting and learning about this is what can give you long term relief from this in my opinion....keep us posted!
