Drinking beer and taking xanax HELP ME!

Hi, I wanted to know if anyone has ever had any lingering side effects from drinking beer and taking xanax. I went on vacation and drank beer for about 9 days straight. I am really not a drinker. I take xanax 3 mgs. daily and ever since I have been back from vacation, I have had a feeling of slight depression. It has been almost six weeks and I still don't feel "normal". I am extremely agitated, nervous and out of sorts. I don't feel like myself. I have trouble making decisions and difficulty concentrating. Things seem surreal. I am beginning to feel like I am losing it. If anyone can provide any information I sure would appreciate it. I have heard it can take several weeks to return to feeling normal

If you are taking both Effexor and Xanax, alcohol, especially when consumed in a 9 day binge style, is the same as playing Russian Roulette.

When you say you've heard that it can take several weeks to return to normal, are you referring to the mixing of high potency psychotropic meds and drinking?

I would think, as did rls, that if it's been 6 weeks since you've had a drink, you should not be feeling this way.
How long have you been on the Effexor?

Bottom line? I suggest you see your doctor as soon as you can and tell him/her about the drinking on your vacation. If you are still drinking, you absolutely must tell your doctor.

A few years ago, one of our beloved members died from mixing alcohol and Xanax. Trust me, you can drink or you can take Xanax, but you can't do both at the same time.
See your doctor.

Thank you so much for your information. I also take Effexor XR for clinical depression. I am feeling subtle clinical depression, not the deep depression I felt when I was first diagnosed 17 years ago. I feel as though I am shaking from the inside out, have trouble making decisions, trouble concentrating. I am scared to drive. I don't go out. This happened once before when I had taken more of my xanax than prescribed and then tried to go back to my normal dosage. It took almost 2 months for me to feel like myself again.

I doubt it's from the beer if the last time you drank was 6 weeks ago. Are you in therapy? It would probably help if you were getting some sort of counseling for whatever the reason you were prescribed xanax. What are going through right now?

FWIW, drinking with xanax is a good way to kill yourself. My son's best friend recently OD'd and died while mixing xanax and alcohol. He vomited in his sleep and choked to death on his own vomit. I would recommend you do not mix the two.
