ENT or Anxiety?????

Hi,

I'm new to this and stumbled upon this website today.  I started off feeling light headed about 6 weeks ago for 4 weeks, couldn't concentrate properly and was like living in a daze, i carried on working, however i was very tired and my doctor signed me off to rest, I then had weakness in the right side of my face accompanied by pressure in the synus area, i have had bells palsy in the past but this wasn't that, it was just weaker although still operating, that lasted a couple of weeks, it is now coming and going, over the last two weeks i have been feeling extremely anxious, restless, tingling in fingers, my left hand feels weaker although i'm not sure why, also getting these really wierd head rush things sometimes the odd one in the day but mostly when i am trying to go to sleep - this is a scary feeling and makes me even more anxious, the rushes come for about a second and wake me up and can happen for a couple of hours every 20 mins but then eventually i do fall asleep.  I went to see ENT yesterday who put a camera up my nose, he said he couldn't see anything serious but that he will refer me for a scan, my doc has also referred me to neurology because i am convincing myself i've got something extremely serious like MS or something and this is making me panic although i've yet to have any panic attacks...., i'm struggling to see what symptoms are medical and which are anxiety and could really do with some reassurance as i think i'm going mad!!!... i have that feeling in my body when you have that restless leg syndrome too....... can anyone help my fears??? thank you!!!  Kathy

I totally understand what you are going through.  Please make an appointment with the neurologists if you haven't already done so.

I know what you mean about waiting to find out what is going on with you making you more anxious.  I am waiting on test for my 16 year old son from the dermatologist and the waiting is driving me nuts.  Try not to focus on it.  I know this hard to do but try reading a book, going for a walk, exercising or anything that will help keep your mind off of things.

I am here for you if you need to talk.  You can send me a personal message if you need too....Feel better.....

Hi

Thanks so much for your comment, i was very nervous about coming on here, i try to block things out but i think it is helping, thanks for your suggestions I have started to see a counsellor through work i have had 1 session so far.

You are completely right, i did at one point put my symptoms into the net which is why i think i started off being paranoid and anxious it really didn't help and i won't be making the same mistake again on that front.  I'm glad its not just me who has done this and thought the worst..!!

A journal is a good suggestion because i think sometimes as time goes by you forget which symptoms you've had or some take over the old ones....

I am just so anxious about seeing neurology its putting my whole life on hold, i cant work, i have no appetite i just want an answer now and know i'm okay....  thanks for your support!!

Welcome to the forum.  Sorry you are going through a really difficult time right now.

I think the first thing you need to do is go see the specialists that you were referred to and get the tests they recommend.  I am not a dr so I can't say that the symptoms you are experiencing are just from anxiety.  I do think anxiety is probably making you worse.  We get into these cycles where we feel something then focus on it and it escalates and goes round and round.  Next thing you know we are diagnosing ourselves with all kinds of diseases.  That is why it is best to be seen by your dr or specialist so they can rule out other causes before just saying it is anxiety.

Another thing I would suggest (I don't know if you are doing this) is please don't research your symptoms on the net.  It is only going to make things worse for you.  I have learned this from personal experience.  The net is a great source for information but not for medical diganosis.

Try keeping a journal.  This might help you get some of your fears and negative feelings out.  Also seeing a psychatrist is something I think would be good for you.  Sometimes it is just nice to have someone to talk to and they can teach you a coping techniques.

Keep posting here.  We are here to help and remember you are not alone.....Good Luck...
