Extremely stressed

Hi Doctor,

I had an unprotected only oral sex with an unknown girl during September 2009. Later, I got a fear that I could have contracted STD's. I was tested and result came as HIV negative after 6 months since from that exposure. I was also tested and result came as Hepatitis B negative and Hepatitis C negative after 10 months since from the exposure. Still, I could not feel relaxed and thinking I might have contracted something.

I developed burning sensation in my body (especially in my back, legs and feet) after 10 days since from the exposure. It comes and goes. I was tested for Thyroid and the result came as normal. My doctor said that burning sensation could have come to the picture only because of nerve disorder.

I just want to relax myself. Please help me. It is my humble request.

Thanks,
Brian

Any good therapist whould be able to help you with health anxiety, it's pretty common! And HIV Anxiety is an actual disorder. Ask your neuro for a referral to a therapist. This type of anxiety is highly treateable.
I wish you the very best!

Hi,

Thank you so much for your kind reply. It has really given peace to my mind. Certainly, It has!

I would consult with a Neurologist.

Can you refer any therapy for health anxiety?

If you had the Elisa test for HIV at 6 months post exposure, you can be absolutely postitive that you are negative. You cannot contract HIV from oral sex, protected or not, so you never had to get tested in the first place.
As for other STDs, I suggest you go to those forums and get the correct answers from the folks there who have a far better understanding of such things.
The burning sensations could be from a number of conditions and I would suggest if it is still bothering you, you should have your doctor evaluate it further or send you to the proper specialist who can. Since you saw him about this condition almost a year ago, I have to wonder why he didn't send you to someone then. A "nerve disorder" doesn't sound like something one should simply ignore.
If you have more tests, more evaluations, and receive more normal and negative results, in my humble and non-medical opinion, I'd guess you have health anxiety and should look into some therapy.
