GAD and Paxil

Roughly five months ago I was diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder and my physician prescribed me Paxil 20mg. At first, it was working quite well; I finally felt like I was functioning normally again. Now, though, it seems that I am worrying again uncontrollably and that my desire to sleep constantly is back. I worry about everything possible but my main concerns have to do with school, money, work, and my boyfriend cheating on me (which is an extremely ridiculous concern that really does consume my life). I have been crying a lot as well over very minor things. It is hard for me to get through everyday because i am worrying about every single thing I do and say. Nonetheless, my question is have any of you ever experienced a decrease in the effectiveness in your dosage of medication and what did you do about it? Was your doctor willing to up your dosage or did he want you to try a different medication all together.?

Sorry I accidentally hit the button. But I too have GAD. It is a way we or our bodies respond to an overload of stress. I recently lost my father and it has been difficult for my family.

If you think of it, you are blowing it out of proportion in a way. Anxiety makes everything seem overwhelming. What is a hugh problem today may be nothing a month from now.

Hang in there and work at it. You really have to go with these feelings. Cry if you feel like crying. Get it all out of you. Remember, it really can't hurt you and your thoughts are just that, thoughts.

Thank you so much for your insight....it feels very nice to have someone speak to me who understands exactly what i am going through. It is a relief to know I am not blowing my situation out of proportion.

I agree with what the above poster told you. Think about a dose increase. Maybe going up to 30 mgs.If that does'nt help then you can always try another med.

I have been on paxil for about 16 years at a low dose (10 mg) but i ahve been as high as 40 mg. It worked very well for years so I began to drop back on the dosage.

Occassionally, during stressfull periods, I get anxiety real bad. When that happens, I increase my dosage. Like you, I worry about everything imaginable. I have even worried about my wife like you do your boyfriend. That too is rediculous. However, anxiety is a very tricky customer. You actually believe what you think.

During anxious periods, you really have to keep a cool head about you. Keep telling yourself it is anxiety playing tricks on you. I know it is hard but you have go with it. Fighting the thoughts and anxiety only fuels the monster.

Believe me, I have been through this many times and have beaten it each episode. I recently went through this back in the fall for a few weeks and I now going t
