From my experience with anxiety meds (Celexa, Effexor), you have to give them a chance to see if they are actually working. For the first couple of weeks you may experience physical side effectst that can be different for everyone. For me, it seemed to mess with my stomach and bowels, caused drowsiness, and an almost heavy feeling in my head for the first two weeks. After two months I just didn't like the physical side effects which seemed to linger, so I was switched to Effexor. Similar side effects and very little improvement for my anxiety. Some but not much. After two months of Effexor I wanted off the ride. For two weeks I had some uncomfortable withdrawal side effects but nothing horrible. I stayed in therapy for a year and it helped. If you can, find a good therapist that specializes in anxiety disorders.
Hi. I think since your anxiety was caused by specific events in your life....therapy would greatly benefit you. It can teach you how to deal properly with all that has happened, and coping skills for any future events. As for medication, what works for one...may not another. The only way for us to know what will work for us is to take what is prescribed and see how we do. It is often trial and error in finding the right one, but well worth it when we do! Therefore, getting other's opinions is of no use to you. Celexa is widely used with excellent results, but not everyone will do well on it. That's just how it is with these types of medications. This can be frustrating, but again...well worth it! You have to start some where, so I would take what your doctor has prescribed and go from there. Think about therapy, it can be a big help. I wish you all the best!
