How to wean off a particular medicine

I take Efexor 37mg one tablet a day. I would like to know how to wean off it. I intend taking Serelax instead and I would like to know if I can stop Efexor abruptly  and start taking Serelax. I would like if there are any negative effects.

Thank you

I recommend a book by Joseph Glanville, The Antidepressant Solution, for a weaning protocol.

Whichever doctor is prescribing the Serelax for you should be able to answer all your questions for you. If not, ask him to contact somone in the field of psychotropic meds and get the answers for you BEFORE you begin tapering off the Effexor, which you CAN NOT stop abruptly! I am really fed up with doctors who know nothing about these types of meds other than what the moronic med reps tell them. It is your doctors duty to get the best, most up to date information for you on any medication he is putting you on!
If he won't do this for you, my advice is to walk out of his office and find a doctor who understands these meds and will follow up with you.
Good luck
