Imitrex & Lexapro

Hi,
I've been over at the addicition pages but thought this question might have a better chance here.  I am currently taking 5mg of Lexapor daily but I do suffer from migraines.  Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex?  There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.  Thanks

PLEASE READ THE ADVICE FROM RCA7591 VERY CAREFULLY AND DO NOTHING UNTIL YOU'VE DISCUSSED THIS WITH YOUR DOCOTR(S)

IF IT WAS THE SAME DOCTOR WHO PUT YOU ON LEXAPRO AND THEN PRESCRIBED IMETREX..........HE/SHE IS A MORON  AND I'D FIND A NEW DOCTOR...........STAT!

THIS KIND OF MISTAKE IS UNACCEPTABLE.

yeah...you should really ask your doctor what they think. it can interact, as was stated above...and it can be a very nasty interaction thats really not worth the risk if there are other alternatives. migraine pain is horrible and so is anxiety, so you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. as far as i know (and i'm certainly not a medical professional)....the interaction between the 2 isn't common. but it's certainly a nasty enough interaction to where you shouldn't make the decision yourself....your doctor should tell you whether it's a good idea or not.

my own personal opinion....i have migraines also and refuse to take triptans because of the interactions they can have. my full-blown migraines only occure maybe once every month or 2...or longer. my other headaches are usually taken care of with excedrin (though this doesn't help a full blown migraine)....so anyway, it's not as big of a deal to me to take a triptan. i don't get migraines often enough for it to be a huge deal.

While I appreciate you thinking we are "experts," we aren't. We are NOT doctors or psychiatrists and none of us have inititals after our names like "MD," or "PHD." We are just like you...........perhaps with a few more years of experiencing theses nasty disorders, but definitely NOT experts!
I would hesitate to take these meds until you HAVE consulted the "real professionals," who are the DOCTORS who perscribed these meds for you. I urge you to call them and ask about using them in combination.
Did you forget the maxim that ALL of your doctors need to know about ALL the meds your taking? Even vitamins and supplements?
I'm pretty sure it's OK, but that is simply a GUESS on my part and is no way intended as a "go ahead" to take them together.
Call your doctors!
Peace
