Having Such A Hard Time

So this all started a few weeks ago when I discovered these tiny purple dots on my  arms and feet.  I looked them up and it said could be sign of leukemia.  Since I have horrible health anxiety I totally lost it.  Couldn't eat, sleep, crying all the time just focused on what these spots could be.  After a few weeks of this I made a doctors appt.  Told the doctor all that is going on and he prescribed Celexa b/c he says I am depressed and Atenelol b/c my blood pressure was so high at the appt 164/106.  He said that the spots are just broken blood vessels nothing to worry about.  Well at the appt. they also did bloodwork to check my thyroid and complete blood count. I got the results and while my thyroid is fine my cbc came back with elevated white blood cells (11.18) and elevated platlets (405).  Now I am really scared that something is wrong.  The doctor said not to worry and that we will redo the blood work at my follow up appt.

I tried taking the Celexa but it gave me very strange thoughts and made me sick to my stomach.  I told the doctor and he now prescribed Buspar but I am afraid to take that as well. I'm also so worn out from the blood pressure medicine.  I'm having problems with my wisdom teeth too and can't see the dentist until May 22nd.  I feel like everything is going wrong all at once.  I can't do anything except cry b/c I'm so afraid that something is really wrong with me and if there isn't then I'm just nuts.  I feel like I am at the end of my rope and running out of options.  I don't know if I should try the buspar or just see if this will pass.  Any advice would be so appreciated.

I totally understand your fear:  put your mind at ease about Leukemia...your count would have to be over 50 to even CONSIDER that!

Buspar works for me...however, it has to be taken along with an anti-depressant in order for it to work.  It took that edginess off that I felt every single morning.  (I always woke up with the shakes and heart racing).

I would suggest that you go see a therapist and if medication is needed, to have it prescribed by a psychiatrist...I find that GP's are often to eager to give out medication without knowing exactly what type of anxiety/depression a person is suffering from....Psychiatrists can give a much better diagnosis.

Also, get a complete physical and check up on your blood work.  An elevated white blood count means that an infection may be brewing...Something an anitbiotic will cure!!!  RELAX!!

I know exactly how you feel!  I'm a terrible hypochondriac and my anxiety loves to feed on that.  And to make it worse, health problems always seem to come with more health problems.  But I tell you what, no matter how much research you do online about what deadly illness you "definitely have," just keep in mind you are not a doctor.  It doesn't matter how exactly your symptoms match what the computer says is a certain disease, there's so much more to diagnosing than just symptoms (and no website really describes symptoms in great enough detail to be accurate anyway).  There was a time when i was REALLY bad with cyberchondria.  I would spend hours a day diagnosing myself with horrible deadly illnesses, which were pretty much -all- wrong when I actually got checked out.  So, I try to avoid doing that anymore.

But for the health issues that you do for sure have, and the fact that you don't want to try new meds, I would recommend Herbalife products (not sure which ones yet).  They're all natural, and they can help with sooo many health problems.  I'll do my research and find out what products I think would be helpful, and I'll post again Monday.  Then you can decide if you're interested, and if you are, I can find a Distributor so you can get them.  But if so, make sure to check with your Doc before taking anything, even all natural stuff.

In the meantime, try eating really health for a week or two.  Even though that probably won't cure anything, you are putting a lot of good into your body, and that will hopefully make you feel better emotionally.  It helps for me.  Well hang in there, I know how you feel :(  And try to stay away from self-diagnoses!

Best of luck to you!

Something to calm you down would be nice, but I'm not a doc.  I just know for myself, I can take half a Valium and get over a bad moment/day.  If your blood pressure was high that would seem to explain broken blood vessels.  Perhaps your wisdom teeth are causing an elevation in your white count - it could be a sign of your body trying to take care of business with the teeth.  Try some deep breathing, exercise if possible and keep very very busy, even though you may want to crawl into bed.  Stay off the internet about your health stuff!  It only makes me worse!  Get out in the sun and take care:)
