Medications for anxiety

Are there any anxiety medications that do not cause bad side effects?  Ive taken meds before but my anxiety got worse and I started feeling depressed so I stopped taking them.  Right now I am not on any medications and have been trying to overcome the anxiety on my own but sometimes it's so hard and I wish there was a good medication that won't give you all those side effects.  I thought that maybe the dosage was too high for me cause I am a female and I weigh about 115 lbs.  Does anybody what the dosage for someone like me would be and what are the names of anxiety medications that doctors prescribe?

I've been on effexor XR for 6 years..only will get a panic attack 2-3 times a year at the most, and are very short lived.  The only bad side effect is lack of sexual desire...I have heard that Wellbutrin is good and doesn't have this side effect.

I've tried every possible natural option and I've tried 7 different meds and all had horrible side effects on me.  The longest I took any anxiety med was 7 days then quit cold turkey.  A few weeks ago a friend of mine gave me 5 Valium.  The first night I took a half pill..slept like a baby.  Took a half pill for the next two nights.  The 4th day is the best I've felt in 20 years.  No body aches or pain, my mind was clear and I was in a  great mood.

I know Valium is very addicitive but so far it has worked the best for me..short term.  I'm leavng the country for 2 weeks tomorrow and when I get back I'm asking my doctor for a prescription.  This will be my last resort.  You might think about something like Valium in the short term.  Good Luck.

i weigh  124lbs and 5'3, i have tryed every med out there i think. Lexapro worked really well in the begining and i would take a klonipin 5mg as soon as i woke up,, because thats when my anxiety would act up. all meds like the anti-depressants takes up to three weeks to give its full effect. now im on cymbolta which seems towork the best, it helps with the physical and mental symtoms, and the only symtom i have noticed with all of them are sexeral. which if u wanna get better u have to deal with some symtoms but the usally are mild

goodluck-----sorry for misspells had to type fast

I am sorry you are having problems with anxiety.  Side effects very from medication to person to person. What is good for one person may not be a great choice for the other.  For example, I get more side effects from taking an over the counter Claritan for allergies than I ever have for SSRIs.  Remember, initially when you start medications, especially with the SSRIs, they actually may increase your anxiety for a little while as your body gets used to it.  In my opinion this is two fold. While we experience these side effects, they are also magnified because we are already in a heightened state of anxiety.

Whatever you and your doctor agree to, don't hesitate to continue to express your thoughts and concerns to him/her.  Also, NEVER start, stop, or adjust dosage on your own; there is a reason they are prescribed...it can be down right dangerous to do this.  Please keep us posted!
