Effexor is an SNRI- it prevents the stress-hormone, norepinephrine, from being released. Norepinephrine triggers adreniline. No release of the stress hormone, no adreniline triggered.
If that isn't your cause for anxiety then effexor won't be helpful at all. Effexor has a stimulant effect in some people.
Tapering down is recommended with effexor as it can create anxiety if you go off too quickly, or go cold turkey. NOT recommended. If you have concerns about the timing, and need more adjustment/transition time, you know your body better than anyone else, including your Dr. Make certain to share ALL details with your Dr, that includes cares and worries. Your biochemistry is different from anyone else's so you won't be textbook coming off any medications. Work with your Dr to develop the best treatment/transition for you specifically. Your Dr can't read your mind, so speak up and make sure you're heard and listened to.
hi
iv been messed about since middle of june with effexor going from 75mg to 150mg then 225mg then 150mg then bk down to 75mg last friday i'm all over the place with it really and not feeling any good effects from it so want off now. do you think i will be ok to have my 75mg effexor and 20mg prozacin the morning and 15mg of mirtazapine at night for the next 2 weeks and then ween off the effexor. and stay on 20mg of prozac and 15mg of mirtazapine. and then eventually come off the 15mg of mirtazapine when i feel ok with the 20mg of prozac. Thanks Jessica x
How long were you on the Effexor? That makes a big difference. A lot of people seem to do pretty well when transitioning from one med to another. It's definitely more optimal than stopping a med all together.
These two meds are in a different class, so it could go either way. If you feel more comfortable with a slower taper from the Effexor, discuss it with your doctor!
Let us know how you're doing!
