Meds

I have just been diagnosed with anxiety disorder.  I have not been prescribed anything as of yet.  I am seeing my doctor again on Friday.  I imagine that I will be given something because my symptoms are extremely acute and have consumed my life to the point where I am sick at least 50 percent of the day,  with dizzyness,  foggy head, pains in my arms and heart palps.  I am worried about meds and I'm wondering if there is anyting I should stay away from or if there are any drugs which are having a great deal of success.  I am hoping that the drugs will be short lived and will help me get through this rough time.  I am more interested in trying alternative methods but as I am so acute right now,  I need something to get me to the point where I can at least function well enough to take on alternative methods of healing myself.

I'd love some feedback.  I'd like to go to my appointment on Friday at least somewhat educated.

Blessings to all

Well first off, just know that your not alone, there are soooo many people who have anxiety and panic attacks that you wouldn't believe it, and I am one of them. Even a strong man can have problems with this sort of thing and it is really difficult to deal with . I started having anxiety at bedtime, over mortality issues, about 1 year ago and my doctor gave me Xanax to help me get through the sleepless nights. It worked great and I would sleep like a baby after taking just .50 mg. After a health scare about three months ago, I went from just having trouble sleeping to full blown painc attacks and constant anxiety. I had all kinds of aches and pains, swollen glands, heart racing, etc, etc, etc and really thought I was going to die. I had all the tests and everything came back negative, so my doctor referred me to a shrink and I went from .50 mg at night to double that during the day and four times that amount to getthrough the night. It works really well, but can be addicting and it's hard to come off the stuff when you want too without going through even more stress and withdrawels. I tried Busparin too, but really didn't like the way it made me feel. Drugs are not the answer, but can help you get through the worst times without losing your mind. I had some success with message therepy, accupressure, and intense excersize. It really helps to have a caring and understanding doctor, I actually quit going to my doctor after 22 yrs because of his uncaring attitude. You just have to find out what works for you, I got alot of help from my family and friends and that is important also. Good luck with your situation and God bless.
