Nervous Wreck!

Hi, I have had anxiety and depression for the longest time ever since I was 12 and now I'm 22.  A few questions, I'm on Citalopram 20mg and I take it one daily. I can't seem to shake this nervousness off when I'm around people, it's like the same thing as an anxiety or panic attack. Feeling of suffercation, face gets numb-mainly my lips-hands and feet, My worst panic attacks are in vehicles.  I thought this medicine was supposed to help, It's getting harder and harder to leave the house or even have a social life, I've been on this medication for about a year now..  What's wrong?

Maybe that medication takes longer to get into your system or doesn't work for you. I'm not familiar with it. But what I do when I'm around people and am starting to have anxiety is this: I cup one or both of my hands to cover my nose and mouth and breathe into them. Also I do things that people can't see or notice like rub the fabric of my shirt between my fingers to distract myself. I hope this helps. I hope you start to feel better and keep trying!

Hi.....you're medication isn't working.  You need to call your prescribing doctor and let him know how you're feeling, so he can either up your dosage or switch medications totally.  Our bodies can build up a tolerance to a medication, it happens to all of us, and this is why we need to work closely with our doctors. Sometimes they may also add an anxiety medication to help you with the panic attacks.  You're going to feel good again, call your doctor and get the ball rolling on this!  Take care.
