Question about new meds

I am on zoloft, was at 50mgs but my Dr uped it to 100mgs cause its been ineffective, i also been having trouble sleeping so he has me on Lorazepam 0.5mgs. I usually take the zoloft at night, when i dont plan on doing anymore driving.  My concern is...Is taking the lorazepam at the same time with zoloft at night safe?? I just dont want to O.D, but i do want to sleep... Anyone else here been on an SSRI and a Benzo?

I wouldn't use a benzo for help sleeping.  First, the Zoloft may be causing the trouble sleeping; that's a common side effect of ssris.  Second, benzos will eventually lose their effectiveness and you'll have to take more or quit, which is not fun.  Benzos are for anxiety, not sleep.  I recommend you try melatonin or Calm's forte, a homeopathic remedy, and see if that helps your sleep.  And try taking the Zoloft in the morning, or split it into two doses; I had to do that with Paxil because it was so sedating when I first went on it.

Thats light weight. I used to take 200Mgs a day of Zoloft for 4 years and chased it with 2.5Mgs of Xanax before bed.

Now if you were to take 4.0Mgs of Lorazepam and 300Mgs of Zoloft, that may be a problem. Your dosages on your Zoloft and Lorazepam are ultra low. No question in my mind that your safe.

Nice thing about Benzos and SSRI's is that they play together nice and their is no bad interaction between the two.

Just watch that Lorazepam my friend. It's a safe drug, but it has a way of making you want more and more the longer you take it. I am addicted to Benzos and I never thought it would happen to me.

Problem with Benzos is that at first a very low dosage does the trick, Then months later you say "humm this benzo has lost it punch" then you take 1.0Mg and then that becomes not enough, then comes 2.0 then 3.0 and the next thing you know your an addict. I will warn you that at very high dosages for very long periods that Benzos like Lorazepam are absolute murder to stop taking. The withdrawl is like a living hell. That's why I still take high dosages. I can't suffer the withdrawl. I tried once and landed in the psych ward for weeks.

Keep the dosage low on the benzo and they are a snap to stop. Go high dosage and you will pay for it in spades.
