Hi Jan,
Some doctors will substitute Valium for ativan since the feeling is that it's difficult to taper off ativan since it stays in your system for such a short period of time where as Valium lasts longer. I'm not sure about Klonopin but "think" that has to be tapered off of as well.
The best thing you can do is check with your health care provider and will steer you in the right direction. Good luck to you.
FMXSMKR: thanks for the update. I had concerns about what "signing off" meant after he had shared his medical story a few months ago.
Jan2008: the only person that can tell you whether you are ready to taper off the ativan is your doctor. A medication like this MUST be tapered off of slowly - your doctor can set up an appropriate regime for you.
He had a long exit post with quite a few "goodbye" responses, ummm 3 days ago I think. I can't even begin to repeat what he said was wrong with him, but in any case, has been cured and is moving on to continue with medical school, specializing in psychiatry with an emphasis on Anxiety/Panic Disorders
He must have deleted it. That's too bad because a lot of people like you, who have been around for so long would want to know that he was well and moving on with his life.
His knowledge was an enormous help to me, for sure.
Sorry to hijack this thread but what happened to Ryan? The only thing his profile says is "RCA7591 has signed off indefinitely, in pursuit of other endeavors and obligations. "
Hi Jan.....I am sad to tell you that Ryan has left these boards for good. He wrote a lovely and detailed exit letter which you can read if you go to his profile.
