Scared of this possible diagnosis!!
I have panic disorder plus agoraphobia. I went for a checkup yesterday and my Dr ran an ekg, chest xrays, and blood work. He's now sending me for an eco on Thursday. He says I may have an enlarged heart chamber. I'm scared to death. Everything I read on this is awful and scary. Please I'm a wreck. Can someone talk to me about this. I'm having serious panic attacks now.
Remember this: panic attacks make you think you are dying, but they never kill you. I have had severe panic attacks and have a really first-class heart. My doctor told me to take .25 mg of Xanax (smallest dose made) to abort an attack. He said that if that were not sufficient, to take a second pill.
The Xanax is like magic. If you let it dissolve in your mouth, the relief comes in just a few minutes. Because Xanax can be addictive, I took it only as needed and in the smallest dose that worked. When I found that the 0.25 mg was effective, I decided to see if half of that dosage worked. It almost always did !!
There are no side effects that I have noticed, except that you get so relaxed you might fall asleep for an hour or two.
Trust your doctor about the Xanax. It is standard treatment for panic attacks.

If you're a complete wreck I suggest taking it. Half hour to hour you should be feeling better. Just my thoughts some may disagree
So Dr wants me to take Xanax and I'm scared to death to take it. Someone plz help me. I'm a wreck.
The same thing happened to me when I was only 16. Everything turned out to be fine. The EKG was somehow done wrong? Or something? I can't remember. I hope the same results for you. My advice stay off the Internet too. It will fuel your anxiety.
Ok. All bloodwork came back good. Waiting on thyroid to come back. But Dr said since bloodwork was good the heart thing should be ok. So that's a relief. Now to get the eco on Thursday. Praise God for this small news.
No but there's blood work already in the process. But I'm so scared of the possible heart issue. I can't stop worrying. I'm consumed by fear of dying. I wish I could get some real answers. I'm scared.
Has anyone ever looked for a physical reason for the panic attacks? Mine turned out to be caused by an adrenal problem.
