Advice

Hi everyone,

I have been suffering from anxiety and depression for 3 years now, it had improved quite a bit, but has come back with a vengance.

I run my own company and need to be in the office but, am sitting on my sofa shaking and having breathing problems. My legs are shaky and feel like jelly.  On top of this feel pretty down.

I suppose I am on here, just to chat to people who are feeling the same, it's a bit help.

How do you get through the bad times?

Take care,

muse

Hi Donna, Yes I am from the uk, but at the moment I am living and working in Germany.

I have tried Kalms but unfortunately they didn't help too much.

I visited my doctor this morning, he has changed my medication from Lexapro to slow release Venlafaxin, have you ever heard of it?

I am worried about changing from one day to the next, but hey, what don't I worry about :-)

An ear would be great, am pretty good at listening too.

Take care,

Muse

Your welcome to message me i will even give you my facebook if you need a ear ...

It could be that you need a change of dosage in your medication or to switch meds completely.  After awhile these types of meds stop working for us and it is common to have to switch to a different one.  It sounds like this is what has happened, plus it doesn't sound like it was doing much to begin with.

Thanks so much for quick responses.  I have been taking cipralex ( think you guys call it lexapro) for 2 years, it hasn't been a big help, but probably stayed off the worst.  I see a therapist twice a month and was doing ok, not great but ok. Now I just seem to have a setback and feel lost and hopeless, i am quite good at controlling my panic symptoms it's the feeling of being overwelmed which is terrible. Thanks for listening..

It can be very difficult to deal with on your own.  You can try deep breathing exercises for the anxiety, but it appears there is more going on. I would see a psychiatrist to be evaluated as to why you are feeling this way, and to learn coping skills on how to deal with it all.  It sounds like you are enduring a panic attack right now.  The best way to deal with these is to understand what is happening.  When in a stressful situation we are hit with the "fight or flight" feeling which is needed at the time.  But with panic attacks, this happens for no reason and comes out of nowhere.  Your brain floods your body with adrenalin which the body cannot use, so it results in the panic attack.  The best way to address excessive adrenalin is through exercise, it needs something to work on.  So, you need to get busy physically and mentally.  Talk yourself down by telling yourself everything is okay, while getting up and doing things to keep busy.  Panic attacks are difficult to deal with on your own, and often medication is used to help with these. I personally would rather take medication than have to face another one.  See a psychiatrist and talk, you will do yourself a big favor.  Take care....

For me i take each day as it comes...

This time of year, well from end of november to end of feb i am a nervous wreck.. But i have to take each day as it comes, and remind myself i am not like this for long, i may suffer with anxiety all the year and slight depression because of this, but this is my peak time (i am sure everyone has a peak time) And it never lasts for ever!!

Do you take any medication? I don't i was given propnanalol (inderel) to take for my symptoms, palpitations, sweats, shakes etc but am to afraid to take them, thats just one of my fears, Offered antidepressants but i have never gotton on with them before so why would i now, so instead i have started taking KALMS (can buy from chemists and some supermarkets) atleast these are natural...

You will get throuh this, make yourself a goal!!

Big hugs x x
