Spouse of husband weaning off effexor...

He has been coming off a large dose of effexor for weeks now.  I haven't seen anything about outward anger and raging behaviors to the surrounding family.  It has been extremely ugly in my home for the past few days and I am on the verge of calling the police to take him away.  He has even begun throwing things and threatening to hurt me.  Has anyone else experienced this behavior?  Thank you.

Your husbands behavior is extremely frightening and he needs help IMMEDIATELY!
And you and your family need protection if he is threatening to hurt you and is exhibiting violent behavior.
My guess is that he is withdrawing from a high dose of a very potent antidepressant WAY too fast.
The first thing I would strongly urge you do is get yourself and your family some place safe. Then call his doctor and tell him/her that you have an emergency, because I honestly think you do! They may recommend that you call 911 for both an EMT AND the police. I think your husband needs to be in the hospital where he can be supervised in light of his threats of harming you and his out of control rage and anger.
Please do NOT try and get him to the ER by yourself. Right now you need to stay away from him and let professionals deal with him.
Get out, get safe and get help! NOW.
PLEASE let us know how you are!
