Stupid question but need some reasuurance.

My boyfriend elbowed me in the side of my stomach just under my left rib. I dont remember how hard but is it possible that I could be suffering from internal bleeding? How would I know? I dont have any symptoms,  just random cramping there.
Help?

This is  not a stupid question, I am sorry you are so afraid. That boyfriend of yours needs to be more careful.

Internal bleeding occurs when damage to an artery or vein allows blood to escape the circulatory system and collect inside the body. The amount of bleeding depends upon the amount of damage to an organ and the blood vessels that supply it, as well as the body's ability to repair breaks in the walls of the blood vessels. The repair mechanisms available include both the blood clotting system and the ability of blood vessels to go into spasm to decrease blood flow to an injured area.

As to the symptoms: Intra-abdominal bleeding may be hidden and present only with pain, but if there is enough blood loss, the patient may complain of weakness, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, and other symptoms of shock and decreased blood pressure. Once again, the symptoms depend upon where in the abdomen the bleeding occurs.

If there is gastrointestinal bleeding, the patient may vomit bright red blood, or if it has been in the stomach for a period of time, the vomit may look like coffee grounds. Bowel movements may be bloody or they may be black and tarry, again depending upon the location of the bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.

If the internal bleeding causes blood to spill into the peritoneum, there can be a significant amount of pain with any movement, and the abdomen can become tense and feel rigid to touch.

Sometimes intra-abdominal blood will track toward the skin and can be seen on physical examination. Cullen's sign is the term used to refer to the appearance of bruising surrounding the umbilicus. Grey-Turner sign is bruising in the flanks.

I see it has been over 3 hours since you posted this? How are you feeling. If you are not having any abnormal pain, etc than I would imagine you are OK, however, if you are still scared and he hit you hard, then I would go to the ER and have it checked. The body is pretty strong however, just tell him not to be so dang rough anymore.
