Will starting citalopram slowly take even longer for effects

Hello, My doc has me starting citalopram for severe anxiety attacks. She has me on one quarter of a 20 mg tab for four days, then a half tab for four, three quarters for four days and finally a full twenty. Has anyone else started like this? The doc wanted to help me with side effects since I am very sensitive in the stomach. Will starting this slower make the theraputic effects take longer to show. I am desperate to feel normal again. I am on .25 of xanax to help with the transition. Any one else in the same boat? Thanks!!

Thanks! The doc suggested switching to klonopin, but I am just afraid to try another drug. Yesterday I felt good, like I could go with out the xanax, but the last time I did that, I felt like I was losing my mind. Now I know about tapering. I have only been on it a month, but I am just sensitive to meds.
I wish you well on your journey!

I was put on citalopram two weeks ago. I am taking 10mg which is what I started off at. I go back to the doctor next week. I am not sure if she will increase my dose or not. She gave me Xanax at first but I do not like it so she switched me to klonopin which is so much better. I already feel better and I am not needing to take the klonopin now. I started to feel better after about a week so hopefully it will work quickly for you.
