I can't add much to JG's post, I just wanted to share with you that Zoloft was the very first antidepressant I ever tried for my panic disorder and it worked great, it really gave me my life back.
I also cannot stress enough that you MUST be patient during the adjustment phase and be sure to give it at least 4-6 weeks before making any judgement calls.
Good luck and let us know how you're doing!
Thank you for the reassurance, both of you.
I'm glad that you got your life back.
Wouldn't be taking this medication if it wasn't for the people around me pushing me.
Thought that I could handle my anxiety by channeling it in other places in my life. I don't like self-medicating, I'm already taking too many pills.
They thought otherwise.
Lets hope this doesn't turn out badly. I'm sure it won't turn out as bad as it is now, I pretty much never leave my room. I'm too afraid to go around the block by myself. I won't even learn how to drive. I'm terrified.
Something has got to give.
I suggested Cognitive Therapy, I'll keep you posted.
Thank you for the concern. (:
To really see the full benefits of the medication, you need to give it 4 to 6 weeks. The most important thing is do not stop taking the zoloft without first consulting your doctor. A lot of people want to throw in the towel before the 4 to 6 weeks are up. So if you do experience side effects, talk to your doctor about this. A lot of times physicians will prescribe some xanax or klonopin to help alleviate the anxiety whie the zoloft is building up in your system.
A lot of people also see a psychologist as well to help learns ways to combat the social anxiety from a non-medication perspective. The combination of medication and therpay can go a long way.
You can get over your social anxiety, it is just going to take some time.
