Can you identify the trigger? What you were thinking about, doing or who you were with before the anxiety and panic set in? If you can figure that out, that will be helpful with reducing your panic and anxiety because you can remove whatever it may be that is causing these negative feelings.
What you can do when this happens (a panic attack... I've had a few and they are not pleasant) is to know that you have control over your thoughts and its your thoughts that are running away and effecting your body with the quick heart rate, sweaty palms, just an overall feeling of discomfort. Refocus on pleasant thoughts or do something that will take your mind off of your body and the way you are feeling. Once I started to do this in my life, my panic attacks stopped. You have control over your thoughts, try not to entertain the thoughts of doom and Good for you for quitting pot. That should help a lot. :)

Anxiety is what it is my friend, and its a vicious cycle sometimes. You start to feel panicky, and then you start to panic about being panicky, and then you wonder why you can't breathe, and then blah blah blah (you know how it works). Any drug use can alter chemicals in the brain that can ultimately lead to abnormal physical symptoms. I myself developed anxiety issues after years of heavy alcohol use which in turn developed into symptoms such as left arm pain and chest pains, whcih left me to believe I was going to have a heart attack! crazy eh? Well I still feel them to this day (24 now, about 21 when this all started). I've been through various tests that show nothing is wrong with my heart and have since then learned to cope by letting myself know that my body is only doing what it must and that I should jsut roll with it. If its really bothering you, simply seek some psychiatric advice and consider some anti-anxiety meds. If its breathing issues you're having, practice some breathing excersises---meditation is good for this. Be calm my friend.
Hope that helps!
