Zoloft to Celexa...Please Help!

Hi,

I have had panic/anxiety disorder for about 10 years now and usually Zoloft has worked for me. But I went off it and started to experience anxiety attacks after about 4 months. This time I got serious about counseling and it started to work but then my anxiety snowballed and I decided to get back on an anti depressant. My doctor naturally put me on Zoloft. I started at 25 and I felt more nervous and jittery and strted to get weird thoughts of hurting myself and others. I would get more anxious at these thoughts and feel so guilty and shamed. They bumped me up to 50mg and for 2 weeks I felt great...but going into the third week I was more depressed and the obssessive thoughts continued. They bumped me up to 75 mg and it slowly got worse. I went to the doctor and she told me to go back down to 50mg which i have been on for 4 days now..I feel like crap but not as bad. I have lorazapam to help me. She wants me to switch to Celexa 10 mg (She thinks I need low doses of SSRI's because I don't do well with higher doses..I have been on Celexa twice before..once it worked for me and the second time it worked until they bumped me up to 20mg and I had immense anxiety). She also taled to me about trying a mood stabilizder such as Topamax but this is new and makes me nervous. Anyhow, what do yo think? And Can I just automatically switch from 50 mg of Zoloft to 10mg of Celexa?

I am sorry that you are dealing with this.  Just follow what your doctor is telling you to do, and if you are having problems, ensure you communicate it with her.  For example, when I came off of Zoloft, I initially had many side effects and had a hard time tapering, so my doctor put me on a slower taper, which helped tremendously.  Are you continuing your counseling through all of this.  For me, anxiety and depression can definitely come in waves and it can ebb and flow regardless if I am on medication or now...please keep us posted!

Hi, I am so sorry you are having all this anxiety.  It can ruin your life.

When you went off the meds did you do it slowly?
If you did I don't think it would be a problem to switch doses.

I really hope this works for you.  I take Xanax only when I need it and it really works for me.  I don't like to be on meds everyday for fear of going thru what you are going thru.

I would really try and go online and try to find some techniques for relaxation and try and stay off the meds.  Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing please.
