amitriptyline

i asked the doctor for stronger painkillers for arthritus and he gave me amitriptyline 10mg to take at night, they make no difference to pain but have made me extra anxious (i suffer from panic attacks and have been on citalapram 10mg for 7 months which have done nothing to stop panic or anxiety). can anyone recommend a good painkiller for chronic arthritus and something that i can just take when i need it for panic/anxiety, i don't want to have to wait and feel worse again(suicidal from citalapram) before i get better. would valium be better as it seems to work straight away then wear off . thanks cris

What pain meds were you taking before that wasnt working? I do know a lot of first line meds for arthritis are NSAIDS (naproxen...celebrex etc) I take valium right now for anxiety but it doesnt work at all but it works great for others. It is also used for muscle spasms (again doesnt work for me) but I havent heard it being used for arthritis but it may help with your anxiety. I would go back to your Dr and first of all let him know the citalapram isnt working. 7 months is a good long time to give it a try and if it isnt working then its time for something else.  And as far as for a pain killer it would depend on what you have already tried.
