As BeeFree stated, it is very normal to feel anxious when we have to speak in front of a group of strangers. I'm sure that most people feel anxiety to some extent when put in that position.
There are self-help books available that will teach you many tips and tricks to deal with this anxiety. If possible, take a Public Speaking class.........I did and it was the best thing I'd done for myself at that time. I still got some anxiety beforehand, but I had learned so many ways to deal with it, believe it or not, public speaking actually became fun.
One of the most important things I learned was to be totally prepared. Know your material backwards and forwards, practice your talk/speech to the point of nearly having it memorized. I learned that a lot of our anxiety comes from a fear of losing control, of forgetting our "lines" and making a fool of ourselves. Self-help books and Public Speaking classes will teach you how to handle yourself if that does happen...........you will learn to relax, even to make fun of any blunders and how to get back on track.
Some people resort to using antianxiety drugs before a public appearance, but I don't agree or endorse that route at all. Far better to learn coping methods naturally, and not rely on a crutch that could backfire in many negative ways.
Now, go out there and get up on your soapbox and let's hear that speech!

All it is is anxiety, and it is completely normal. We all get nervous while we are in the public eye-- some more than others. Our hearts race because adrenaline is being pumped into our bloodstream, telling us that "danger" is ahead and preparing us to flee the scene if we choose to. But as long as you stay focused and confident in yourself, the public eye won't be so scary. Remember that they're not perfect either, and messing up is human! Relax and be yourself. That's all anyone can ask of you.
