help with panic attack symptoms?

Hi I'm kinda new to this. I started having panic attacks about 6 months ago, it started at work when i felt like i was gonna faint like my head was heavy a bit off balance. since then i have these panic attacks where i get pressure in my ears and temples like a dullness feeling where its hard for me to speak or think it peaks where i feel like im gonna go crazy. Has anyone had these symptoms. also as far as panic attacks, i've never had a racing heart. My heart has always stayed calm like low 60 bpm. and i havnt sweat at all either during.

Hello there,

i started having panic attacks about 2 years ago, they started one night out of the blue.  my heart would do like a "flip flop" feeling or as if it had "rolled over". I went to A&E and had a ECG that came back fine.  This carried on every hour of the day for a week  i was on edge all the time i found my self worrying about nothing! I went to the doctors and he did another ECG and that was fine.  he put me on a  antidepressant  for the first week this hightened every thing i cried all the time i was scared of every thing.  It was the first thing i thought about when i woke up right up untill i went to bed.   then it just stopped! i felt so much better in myself. i took the tablets for about 6 months  i weaned myself off them, if my heart did ROLL OVER i learnt to carry on and ignor it. i felt really well and happy.......... Untill this september my little boy started school.  i was fine for the first few weeks but all of a sudden my panic attacs returned this time tho they feel different,  i dont get the palpatations and i dont get breathless, i just feel really sick or i get this rush thru me as if im gonna pass out, my head goes really light and my vision is strange i cant discribe it.  i get this every day on the way to take him to school and on the way to pick him up,  Inbetween those times im fine.  I struggle to go places now, because of this feeling like im gonna pass out, or i get  a nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach a feeling like " I NEED TO LEAVE RIGHT NOW"  so i just run out of where ever i am.  some times my mind will be racing all the time about how i feel,   or my body feels really "FUZZY" ,  when i first started having this feeling i used to sit and freeze and not want to move a muscle untill it has passed, but now i have learnt to work thru it and carry on to take my mind off it.  Still now tho i cant bear to hear or feel my heart beat, it scares me so much!  im waiting too see a councilor,  but for the mean time im just trying my hardest to get through this with out any medication,  i have to push my self to go out, its getting easier. i just wish i was back to normal!  i have this little saying i repeat to my self when im on my was to the school which i find help full its  "I am Well, I Am Happy,  I am Calm" i say it a few times over then hold my head up high and walk thru those gates!  x x x

I think you should talk with a doctor and let them know your symptoms and see if there are any tests you need done to make sure it's not a medical condition.  The symptoms you are talking about could be a number of different things so it'll probably take some time to get it correctly diagnosed.  I have had attacks that slowed down my speech and caused me to have a funny feeling in my head among other things.  What I have is Conversion Disorder though.  Maybe you could take a look into that.  I think it has something to do with anxiety but it is psychogenic although one with conversion disorder can't help it.  It's not like you want to have those odd feelings and movements...they just happen.  But yeah first I'd go seek the advice of a doctor you trust.  Hope this helps!

Josh, my anxiety attacks are alot like yours. I feel like I have problems with anxiety everyday. The symptoms usually involve intense lightheadedness, visual changes, a "buzzing" feeling in my muscles, and feeling as though I'm going to have a seizure. Out of all of these symptoms, though, I never experience an increased heart rate.
I've had every test in the book done on me, all of which came back normal. It was my neurologist who finally suggested, after a perfect examination, that I suffered from anxiety. I have since begun seeing a therapist once a week and taking celexa. So far, no notable changes in my condition. I do notice, though, that when you're busy, the symptoms are gone. Whenever I'm not thinking about the symptoms, it's like I'm my old self again. Good luck.

Panic attacks is nothing but intrusion of fear and anxiety in the persons due to one or more factors. Many times, persons are totally ignorant about the real causes of panic attacks in them.

Some times persons are so affected due to particular incidents that they are totally shattered which gives birth of fear and depression in their minds. These fear may be their probable financial crisis or past failure in achieving their individual goals.

Panic and anxiety "attacks" are closely related. It takes many forms and symptoms. Connecting reason is a FEAR state. Fear of the bad feelings and not being able to get out of them. What works for me is a 4 step progress. You need also understand that when it comes and you go FIGHT or FLIGHT, it takes 3 minutes for the attack to let go of you. So: 1. Stop! Say STOP inside your mind loud. Stop this negative thinking pattern! Stop!
2. Relax. Try to loosen up and breath with a looong and very slow exhaling.
3. Use positive coping statements. Like remember that it takes some time for your body to start relaxing, about 3 minutes for the attack to pass. Its easy. Just trust a little.
4. Accept your feelings.

Ive been suffering from these fear states for 10 years, only now Ive understood what it is called...

I agree with Clout 100%.  I have been dealing with GAD and Panic disorder for 5 years now.  I started with the usual high heart rate and hyperventilation but noticed that it started to rear its ugly head into different symptoms.  I started to get a really sick feeling with no excelerated HR or HV.  It would always happen in stores or going out to eat.  I would take a litte XANAX and my symptoms would go away.  I some times would also feel really anemic.  But most of my symptoms during a panic attack are extreme HR and HV.  MY HR has been into the 180's and let me tell you its hard to try to convince yourself that there is nothing wrong when that is happening.  I have been on meds and off meds.  I am going back on until I can strengthen my cognative skills a little more.  I had an attack yesterday with a HR of 165 but managed to stop it in 2 min. flat with positive thoughts.  Anxiety and Panic can show up in many different forms, not just the usual palpitations, high HR, or HV.

Josh,

My panic disorder and anxiety has taken on so many forms since it started 3yrs ago. I first had severe dizziness with head pain. Then I had severe dizziness with nausea the it progressed to my right hand going numb. Then my right arm going numb with severe dizziness. Then I started getting what is called auras with pain in my head and confusion. At this point they sent me to nuerologist and it came out fine. It was another form of anxiety and panic disorder. Now in the last year I started getting rapid heart rate as well as a tingling sensation in my chest. These last for hours at a time. During the attacks I have a hard time breathing and get chest pains. It feels as if I ran a marathon. They monitered my heart for three days twice and it came back with irregular rythmia with a high rate of 168 and a low rate of 38 bpm at night.

I guess my point is anxiety and panic disorder can take on many forms and "progress" so to speak. I have been in P.T.S.D. and G.A.D. treatment for 2.5 yrs and I also do EMDR treatments as well. They said I had controlled anxiety for years and now it is out of control. I am on Zoloft and Clonazepam after much anxiety about taking pills to begin with. I am still hesitant to "updose" this is extremly common with people with Anxiety and Panic disorder per my doctor. Just needed to let you know you had some ignorant responses and that this could still be Anxiety and Panic disorder But you really need to see someone for a diagnosis. I waited and it progressed. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I had suffered Panic Attacks for a long time. The bad thing was I tried to get help at first, but was told "its all in your head"  of course this was in the 70's and there was not much study on panic attacks or panic disorder.
I suffered for many years.
All of a sudden out of no where I would get this feeling like I was going to die right then. I felt out of control, extremely anxious and I would hyperventilate. I would literally shake I would be so nervous. My anxiety level was off the charts. It was almost like I was having a seizure, but I didnt have a seizure. However, after the panic attack was over, I was exhausted.
Many times, my heart would NOT be racing, but alot of times my heart did pound and race. If I was in a car, I would have to get out of the car. In fact I avoided getting in a car or going somewhere as simple as the grocery store for fear I would have another panic attack. I felt like I was losing my mind.  It was horrible. I literally lost over 22 YEARS of my life being a "prisoner" in my house and afraid of everything.
What really started my life back on track was XANAX. I took .25mg every night. Sometimes I would have to take 2 a day, but usually i only had to take the one  .25mg tablet. to make a long story short I am over the attacks. I dont know exactly WHAT happened, other than after I stopped having menstrual periods, I stopped having panic attacks. Interesting, huh?  I believe hormones definitely played a part in my torture and thats what it was  TORTURE.  I found out years after I began having the Panic attacks that it ran in my family, of all things. No one had these PA's as severe as I had, mainly because i kept this to myself and didnot tell my family until years later.
I hope you will get better and seek the help you need. I would be glad to help you if I could.
This is how i described having a panic attack to someone who had NO clue what a real panic attack felt like.
Picture walking on a railroad track that was high over a body of water where you could not get off the track unless you jumped to your probable death. Then picture you walking on that railroad track and all of a sudden you see and hear a locomotive coming straight for you. you cannot move because of the fear, you have no where to go,you are lietrally frozen in fear, you cant move. Thats what a real panic attack felt like to me.

I HAVE TO AGREE. PANIC ATTACKS/ANXIETY YOU HAVE SEVERAL SYMPTOMS AND YOU DON'T SEEM TO HAVE THE USUAL ONES. I KNOW EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT, BUT YOU MAY WANT TO HAVE YOUR SYMPTOMS CHECKED OUT. WHO SAID THEY WERE PANIC ATTACKS TO BEGIN WITH?
I HAVE THE HEART RACING, SENSE OF DOOM AND FEAR OF DYING SWEATING, ETC. I HAVE IT ALL AND IT CAN BE QUITE SCARY.

Josh,  why do you think these are panic attacks,  instead of seizures?   This doesn't sound the least bit like a panic attack to me.   During a panic attack you PANIC.  And feel HORRIBLE FEAR.  You're not describing this at all.
