There are a lot of things you can try.
I will list a few that I think may help you.
As mjohnston mentioned,
Exercise is great. Choose the type you enjoy the best.
Deep conscious breathing. Look up Pranayama breathing.
Yoga is a great way to improve the way you feel. Get a DVD or join a class with a friend perhaps.
Also you could consider Hypnotherapy. But do not go for one session. Not enough to achieve lasting results!
A good professional Hypnotherapist would only accept clients on the basis
of scheduling at least 3-4 sessions after the free initial consultation.
Reiki is a method of healing energy transfer.
I use a combo of Reiki, Hypnotherapy, Energy Psychology and EFT for a variety of Clients' issues including GAD and social anxiety with good results.
Do a search in your area to see who offers such services.

What meds did you try, and how long were you on each of them?
Drinking will only make it worse! What are your symptoms? Since meds didn't work try ecxcerie and deep breathing, yoga.. It will take awhile but eventually you will feel better!!
