If I get your story right, you were on Celexa for 10 years and started recently to ween off of it per your doc's instructions. Then you got ill and he prescribed something. Thereafter, the anxiety came back. So, if this is correct...it sounds to me that you didn't gradually stop Celexa but rather did an immediate hault with it. When you got the flu, the shot/medication he gave you probably sedated the anxiety. Once that was gone, your anxiety came right back. Therefore, it leads me to believe that you need to take the Celexa and gradually ween off of it like your doctor suggested. Talk to your doctor and if you're not content with the feedback, you can always get a second opinion.
To connect similarities to your story, I had a back injury which gave me anxiety, I started Ativan and then 2 months later, I began my muscle relaxer and pain killer. I stopped Ativan altogether and I didn't get anxiety. What I discovered was that the muscle relaxer and pain killer were sedating my anxiety. Once I got off the muscle relaxer and/or pain killer, the anxiety started to come back. Anxiety just takes sedating...I used Ativan on/off as needed prescribed by my doctor. I'm also in the perimenopause stage of life which anxiety is like the #1 symptom.
I'm kind of confused. You started your post saying that you've been on Celexa for ten years and that u were trying to ween off, but u've ended your post asking if your anxiety is caused by Celexa GETTING into your system.
Which is it? Are you starting Celexa or coming off of it?
I"m just curious, because I'm supposed to start Celexa and I'd like to know what to expect.
