is celexa giving me anxiety?

I have been on 40 mg of celexa for almost 10 years now. i started it because of depression.
last Oct. my Dr. suggested i try to ween myself off of it.
his reasoning was i that i had not had an episode in over a year. and if i do fine without it that is better than taking a drug you don't need.
so i was on 20 mg until Jan. of this year then i went to 10 mg. and was just about to completely stop. i had not had any problems with depression or anxiety during this time.
2 weeks ago i got the flu. and went to see my Dr. he gave me a shot , DEX 4 i think, to knock out the sinus problems. i was just about over the flu. i told him i was doing fine with quitting my meds.

2 days later i started having major anxiety.it was so bad i could not work. i was afraid to be alone.
it was so bad i called my Dr. he said that celexa is a slow acting drug and to just give it some time and it will start working.

i have some librium that i have been taking to make the days not so bad. it helps some.

i have been taking my pill at night. and i sleep fine, until 5 AM then i am awake with full blown anxiety. it lasts all day. it eases up around 3 PM. and at night i am fine, feel great, normal.

this morning was better than it has been. anxiety was not as bad as before.

is this just the celexa  getting into my system? is that was is causing me to have such bad anxiety?
how long before i get some relief?

If I get your story right, you were on Celexa for 10 years and started recently to ween off of it per your doc's instructions.  Then you got ill and he prescribed something.  Thereafter, the anxiety came back.  So, if this is correct...it sounds to me that you didn't gradually stop Celexa but rather did an immediate hault with it.  When you got the flu, the shot/medication he gave you probably sedated the anxiety.  Once that was gone, your anxiety came right back.  Therefore, it leads me to believe that you need to take the Celexa and gradually ween off of it like your doctor suggested.  Talk to your doctor and if you're not content with the feedback, you can always get a second opinion.

To connect similarities to your story, I had a back injury which gave me anxiety, I started Ativan and then 2 months later, I began my muscle relaxer and pain killer.  I stopped Ativan altogether and I didn't get anxiety.  What I discovered was that the muscle relaxer and pain killer were sedating my anxiety.  Once I got off the muscle relaxer and/or pain killer, the anxiety started to come back.  Anxiety just takes sedating...I used Ativan on/off as needed prescribed by my doctor.  I'm also in the perimenopause stage of life which anxiety is like the #1 symptom.

I'm kind of confused. You started your post saying that you've been on Celexa for ten years and that u were trying to ween off, but u've ended your post asking if your anxiety is caused by Celexa GETTING into your system.
Which is it? Are you starting Celexa or coming off of it?
I"m just curious, because I'm supposed to start Celexa and I'd like to know what to expect.
