latest research/break-throughs

A while back, fear gene (GRH and Stathmin) were found. Does any one know any advancements on these findings as to how this helps a lay-person who is anxiety ridden?

Also any word on D-cylcoserine/yohimbin or is it still in trial? Any feedback?

Or do we still resort to old ways of self-help books and psychotherapies (tapes and cds and stuff!)

d-cylcoserine  and yohimbin were being used with exposure therapy for fear (innate and learned) extinction by some researchers. And results were very successful. These are of course drugs/meds but on the gene side -two genes (GRH and stathmin) were found to be fear related. When I say fear -it also means anxiety/panic related. Also very useful for social anxiety/phobia as well. Its been about 2 years since all this was going on and I was wondering what the status was on these important findings -that is- if they were being used now in main stream for lay-person who is panic/anxiety/fear ridden!

Yes, i am aware of dangerous interaction about maois and ssris. thanks.

I did a search on the words d-cylcoserine and found this as it relates to a study done on those with schizophrenia...

http://focus.hms.harvard.edu/1995/Oct6_1995/Schizophrenia.html

but didnt see anything as it relates to anxiety. I have been reading about herbs for some perioud of time now and nature craft medicines,, and I dont know how it relates to the d-cylcoserine but I do know if you use yombine you MUST be very careful what else you put into your body as it is a natural MAO inhibitor,, meaning it allows chemicals that normally are to large to get into the brain to cross the blood brain barrier. Proceed with extreem caution and talk to your doctor or research dietary restrictions with these types of chemicals,,, it could be the difference between life and death partiularly if you are taking an SSRI which can cause seretonin syndrome and a deadly drop in blood pressure.
