Using medications like Lexapro is definitely a personal choice. As with anything, one must way the benefits vs. the costs of anything we do. For me, I thought taking an SSRI like Lexapro helped me tremendously as I sought help through talk therapy. I believe it can be a very powerful tool to use while you learn about your anxiety and the ways which you can confront and deal with it.
You can't feel the full benefits of Lexapro for 4-6 weeks. There is an adjustment period for the Lexapro, but if the side effects don't get better in a week or two, let your doctor know. We have no way knowing when the time is right for getting off an antidepressant, this is something you and your doctor need to discuss. We won't know if the time is right until we no longer are taking it, and it's totally out of our system. If the depression returns, then we still need it. I'm sure you know to never stop this medication abruptly, work with your doctor to wean off of it. I'm happy that you are feeling better! I wish you all the best and take care!
