Some phobias make sense, to a degree. The dictionary defines a phobia as an "irritional fear."
Fear of snakes, spiders and other creepy crawly things.....millions of us have this one! Fear of heights.........who hasn't stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon or a tall building and gotten that sense of vertigo that may cause us to pitch off the edege? Fear of flying.........hers's a biggie. It combines a fear of heights, claustraphobia and being totally out of control. Three for the price of one! There are hundreds of other examples of fears that have at least a small basis in reality, and personally, I don't find them all that "irrational."
But I think your fear of having your Achilles' heel, (more often referred to as the Achilles' tendon) cut, definitely falls into this category.
Do you have any idea how you came by this phobia? Did you cut yourself and the doctor said "A few more inches to the left and it would have severed your Achilles' tendon." That could definitely start up a phobia. I see you're 15 and while I don't mean to lump you into the "horror movie" crowd, it's a common age to be into "slasher" movies and perhaps you saw someone getting their Achilles' tendons cut, which would prevent them from running away.
No matter how you came by this particular phobia, the bottom line is that it is affecting your daily life, your work and/or schooling. It is causing you anxiety and loss of sleep. It is causing you to avoid specific situations such as standing by any sort of gab that leaves your Achilles' tendon vulnerable.........such as by your bed or near cars.
I suggest you talk to your parents and let them know just how seriously this is affecting you. If they won't listen, talk to your school counselor. If this fear is so pervasive it is "taking over your thoughts," you need to get into some therapy to understand and deal with this fear.
Bear in mind that we do outgrow many phobias, and while that may be a good thought, I realize it doesn't help you now.
Talk to your parents and go from there. (And maybe cut down on the scary movies!)
Please let us know how you're doing, OK?
Peace
