soo sick of being alone : (

I am just so sick of everyone around me not understanding what I am going through and acting like it is so easy to stop yourself from having anxiety.  I feel so alone.  I finally decided about 3 weeks ago that I am going to try out medication which is something I have been totally against for a very long time.  I just don't know what else to do anymore...I have been dealing with severe anxiety and panic attacks for 6 months now and I feel like I have tried everything.. therapy, exercising, relaxation techniques, yoga.. I am so lost.  And even more, I am so nervous about going on meds : (   Can anyone give me any advice on some experiences they have had with them?

Well my experince may not be the same as yours will,, but mine was that while trying to deal with the physically uncomfortable sensations of anxiety, benzopines helped in the beginning. In the short term these are very effective at reducing the levels of stress hormones your brain allows itself to take up, thereby reducing the fight or flight reaction substancially.

The point is, its YOUR body/brain and its YOU who are dealing with this. Nevermind what others think, if you are hurting in some way NO ONE else can say your not, so tell them to shut up and figure out what its going to take to help you get through this.

Now... in the LONG term.. benzopines make it harder for the brain to deal with the anxiety feelings that keep flooding it. So its important to make sure you visit your regular family doctor FIRST (and ask for a CBC blood panel) and have a physical done. But a psychologist or therapist is also important once your sure your otherwise healthy, in order to help you learn to deal with the stress without medication too. If the doctor starts dumping medications on you that your unsure about, be an empowered client,,,, research the medicines before you try them so you know what ALL the potential side effects are should they emerge after starting them.

Dont dismiss a particular med (SSRIs primarly) before giving it a try,, but be alert to strange thoughts, feelings or general feelings of being unwell once you do. If taking the meds causes more anxiety than they help... ask for something different and dont let your doctor tell you that what your feeling is 'normal' if it feels abnormal. Iv heard of doctors upping doses of medicines when a patient had a negative reaction and thats bad.. perioud.

Some medicines are infamous for actually raising anxiety levels before they 'settle in' if you will and then bring down the anxiety.. so keep that in mind too. But do your research on this wonderful web we have and try not to 'seek' out just the negative reactions because you will find them with every medication known I promise. Mind you , this comes from somone who had a psychotic reaction to paxil ... I wont put an SSRI in my body now, but Im also not dealing with depression at this phase of my life.. so I cant say I would NEVER try one of the newer medications in the future if that became a seriouse problem that I couldnt deal with through other means. (diet, exercise, sunlight ect)

If you know you've tried everything on the personal level like cutting out caffine, reducing 'habitual' things like cigarettes or alchohol, getting a bit of sunlight everyday,, walk or otherwise get physically active, drinking water to flush out toxins (which often are at the root of anxiety when they build up in the liver and body fats) and not focusing on to much scary./negative matters in life or on tv... then an anti-anxiety medicine really could help in the short term by allowing you to see the 'light' again. But please dont make the mistake of thinking the 'fix' is in the pill,, because its not. The fix isnt anywhere but inside of you.. and if a pill helps you feel that theres hope again, then its worth its weight in gold.

*Wishing you peace and hope*
